Let's make career plans for Anxiety!

I say "Go SNL." The Daily Show may be smarter comedy, but where do you go from there? Has anybody from that show gone on to major success elsewhere? SNL, on the other hand, has launched numerous film careers (for better and worse) and that's where the money is.

Anybody else have any career advice for Anxiety? DOOK?

no!

i'd be perfectly happy going the daily show route. nod they're allowed to write smarter stuff and they can get away with being irreverent and offensive in a way that appeals to me more than SNL's current brand of fart joke humor. if i were able to be as successful as steven colbert or beth rutherford (during her brief glory days), i'd be perfectly happy. i really don't need my own 'billy madison' franchise, thanks. lol

you know, i just read a really good interview with steve martin in a magazine this week - i wouldn't mind having a career like his. he makes ridiculous wads of money making dumb franchise movies like 'father of the bride' and 'the pink panther', but on the other hand he writes really smart, sometimes even really profound pieces for the new yorker, not to mention his novels and plays. i wouldn't mind having that kind of a career where i'd make lots of money making stupid shit, then being able to use that money to make work i really WANT to make, whether anyone actually reads it or not. lol

I'm told some of Steve Martin's written work is actually quite good (never seen it myself), but, yeah, most of his movie choices are just appalling. At least Myers makes his wads of dough with clever comedy.

as for steve martin, i do seem to remember a time when he was making some pretty interesting comedy films, like 'dead men don't wear plaid' and 'the man with two brains'. 'cruel shoes'-era steve martin is something i wish i was old enough to appreciate when it was popular and happening, because i think it was such original, oddball comedy that unfortunately, couldn't fly today.

Unfortunately, both of these flicks tanked.

it tries to be original and quirky, but it fails. i give it points for trying, but it's pretty crummy.

"A Holiday Wish" (Steve Martin)

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

If I had two wishes that I could wish for this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace.. and the second would be for $30 million a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.

You know, if I had three wishes that I could make this holiday season, first, of course, would be for all the children to get together and sing.. the second would be for the $30 million every month to me.. and the third would be for all encompassing power over every living being thing in the entire universe.

And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, first would be the crap about the kids.. second would be for the $30 million.. the third would be for all the power.. and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year for an extended 31-day orgasm, to be brought about slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina somebody, I can't think of her name, of course my lovely wife could come, too. She's behind me 100% on this, I guarantee you.

Wait a minute, maybe that sex thing should be the first wish! So, if I made that the first wish, because, you know, it could all go boom tomorrow, and then what have you got? No, no.. the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. No, no, who am I kidding! I mean, theyu're not gonna be able to get all those kids together! I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible! It's mroe trouble than it's worth! So, we reorganize: here we go. First, the sex - we go with that; second, the money. No! We go with the power second, then the money, and then the kids. Oh, wait, oh geez! I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay.. revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in Hell! That would be the fourth wish! And of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of peace and harmony. Thank you, everybody.
