Mouton Cadet (a Bordeaux) is a good table wine choice. You're not going to impress a wine snob with it, but most of them consider it perfectly acceptable. And considering that it's only about $8 per bottle, it's a good value.
BTW, most stores are now selling 2001 Mouton Cadet, but if you find a leftover bottle from the 2000 vintage, snap it up. 2000 was a great year for Bordeaux... probably the best since 1982 and 1986. Still, Mouton Cadet is not a wine that's going to improve with age, so don't even think of storing it in the cellar... just drink up and enjoy. Now, if money is no object, treat yourself to a bottle of 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. It's easily the best wine I've ever tasted. Alas, a wine dealer is probably going to want around $750 for a bottle (expect the price to double if you get it at a restaurant). Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

In your store, try to find wines from 2003. There was a incredible heat wave this year and heat wave's year give wine a unique taste.

I drink at least 2 bottles of wine a week. I love red and white equally, depending on what I'm eating. I love so many different wines that I won't bother to list my favs, but if you don't normally drink much wine, start with a chardonnay. Very light and crisp tasting. Red wine takes a bit more time to appreciate.
