well, they weren't just "a couple of lesbos" - one of them was a long-time co-worker and a very good friend of mine, not to mention that her intelligence and kindness made her a big role model in my life. her partner was an amazing woman, too - the three of us were great friends, and we experienced a lot of moments together during my time in new york, most significant of which was when we marched in the matthew sheppard vigil together and my co-worker's partner happened to be one of the organizers of it.

i cared for and admired these two women more than words can say, and if i didn't feel just wonderful vibes about their ability to be mommies, i would have said no. and yeah, we actually tried it a few times. it can take up to two years for artificial insemination to work, but we didn't quite go that long...unfortunately, they broke up four months or so into the attempts (though they remain very close).

it's a shame, not only because they could have made a great family, but also because as a part german/part eurasian/part injun mutt, it woulda been one hell of a good looking kid.

I don't feel ready to take on the responsibility of raising a child - I *CERTAINLY* didn't then - but I thought that on her own or with her partner, my friend would make an amazing mom and I was flattered to be part of making that happen for her. They were going to let the child know I was the biological father. They wanted me to be a male "adult" figure in the child's life and we also talked about me babysitting the kid and taking the child out to plays and museums, because neither of them were very much into the arts. We talked about the arrangement for a few weeks, and I was completely satisfied with what we discussed.
