But according to the Writers

The numbers have only become an issue because the fans have become obessed with them. J.J. said that himself last fall.

So im a bit iffy on where this came from.

That doesn't really contradict what I was saying, tho...the numbers didn't have to be an issue for the "lost island of mu" to be an inspiration for the series...it could simply be the reason they use those particular numbers. I mean, something made them pick those particular numbers...this is as good a reason as any..lol...

Besides, stories about an island that nobody can find, lost civilizations that used to inhabit it, and something at its core causing the end of mankind just happen to be connected to those six numbers in real life?...Could be a coincidence, but my gut tells me it's not...

Ok...I've only recently gotten into Lost so not sure if this is old news on here or not..lol...but I saw this on another message board site...kinda freaky, but moreso an interesting possible insight into where the "Lost" creators minds are in all this..

If you open Notepad (not Wordpad or Word, etc)...do this:

Hold down the ALT key, then type in the "numbers" without any spaces (4815162342), then let go of the ALT key...you should see a symbol that looks like this:

ยต

This is the symbol for mu (lower case)...

Now go to Google and look up mu..or rather "island of mu". Here's what the first one I clicked on says:

"I ran across a few books, namely the "The Island of Mu," "The Children of Mu," and "Symbols of Mu." I forget the authour's name, but he claims that he's found a lost island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean between Oceania and South America.

In the preface to his books, he mentions that he learned this information from a Hindu priest who kept hidden the secret tablets of the Naacals, which detailed the history of this island of Mu."

And here's a site that deals with...a helluva bunch o' shit..lol...

http://www.users.globalne...lofMan.htm

Most interesting is this section (I'm pasting this from the other site):

"genetic upgrading took place on Mu and the Turaneusiam DNA template of 12 strands was restored amongst the Lumarians and some Alanians...The scientists and priests of Mu were aware of the probability of this forthcoming disaster, and preparations were made....

The individual consciousness of personalities would be trapped in dimensional suspension, unable to hook up to their collective state and the morphogenetic field of the planet Tara. In anticipation a great plan for a rescue mission was devised....now with restored 12-strand DNA and located on Mu, time travelled into the probable future, containing the fallen Earth. They converted their forms, at the collective level of the Ur-Tarranates, into pure energy, creating a gestalt of consciousness that took the form of a sphere.

In doing so, a portal was created from this Earth to Tara prior to its collapse...The inevitable disruption occurred in the core of Tara. Components of its grid system and morphogenetic field were ripped off."

hmmm

there are hints of lost continents in the Pacific: Lemuria and Mu and atlantis

It wouldn't surprise me if the writers are drawing on those...

me either and that could explain the 4 toed statue too.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Umm I think this is a bit much for not only the Lost writers, but also the Lost audience to undestand.

But interesting ....but from the get go the writers have always said that everything will make logical sense.

Granted they have taken alot of leeway, but if instead of purgatory its alien seeding id be rather turned off.

More an issue of the creators and writers drawing inspiration from these stories than plagarizing specifics contained in them...and it can't be a coincidence that inputing those exact numbers into Notepad brings up the symbol for mu.

Plagarizing? Borrowing..would be a better term. And they seem to be borrowing bits and pieces from all kinds of stories. I don't think it's JUST going to be the Island of Mu...but I think it's going to be something similar. It's the story line of the Others mixed in with other peoples stories that are also figuring in to the intrigue. As well as the Dharma Initiative.

I have never read that. They did say that they don't know what the numbers mean. MY guess is that they pertain to SOMETHING on the show...and the writers have interwieved their "mystery" through out the show. We're only seeing numbers they are showing us. AND they are putting them EVERYWHERE!

I would even imagine it might have gone like this. During the creation of the show. The idea of island of mu...and atlantis gets thrown around. SOmeone does reseach and finds the number anomoly on line(the one Byron Mentioned) as an interesting "fact". Jots it down as a possible detail. At the drawing board, this little misnomer comes out and everyone just loves it and suggests that they incorporate those numbers somehow into the plot. Just as a little clue. ANd then someone mentions "hey let's put them everywhere!" and add more mystery to them and the story. It wouldn't surprise me. I'll bet they have a numerologist on the show or at least contracted to now make sure every number/date/time etc has one of the numbers in it. Or is a dirivative of the numbers.

No, I meant that the Lost creators/writers were most likely NOT plagarizing the specifics of stories like the one of the island of mu...if anything, they were merely inspired by it while coming up with the overall story for the series.

Byron, if you look into your theory a little deeper you find so much more. This is stuff a friend of mine dug up.

It looks like this is shaping up to be based on HP Lovecraft writings.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ntinent%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._mythos%29

Maybe the "monster" is Chthulhu, he's coming out of the mountain Yaddith-Gho. look to the right of the being, there's the rock with the square shape cut out of it.

Alien beings started life on the island of Mu. Chulthu is made of "cosmic materials"... and can change shape at will.

These "aliens" mined a strange metal on their planet Yuggoth called Tok'l metal. This metal was used in making "brain canisters". These brain canisters were used when they abducted humans and took them out of the planet.

They'd put the abductee's brain in this canister that made the brain think it was still living its life normally. Black "smoke" anyone? This magnetic dust is likely this Tok'l metal that has these "photographic" properties.. hence why people saw stuff in the "smoke".

The four toed statue looks like it could be a statue of Anubis. His symbol is also shown in the hieroglyphics when the counter goes past 0 :

Check out the symbols for Anubis here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis

The island of Mu was also a place of many different religions which could explain the refernces and symblos in the show which depict Budihsm, Hindu, Christianity and Egyptian religions.

Here they talk about the Mayan theory...
http://au.messages.yahoo....in/290?p=1

it's a pretty good one.

1970 = beginning of the Dharma Initiative
1970 + 42 = 2012 = the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. So the theory is that the Dharma initiative is populating this island for the end of the world. The hatches are subterranean because the island will sink again.

In the Dharma video, there's a Mayan calendar in the De Groots office.

The island of Mu is thought to be where the Mayans originated from.

Also for consideration: the island moves, the Black rock sank when it hit the island (when it was just below the water level) and sunk onto it.. then the island resurfaced some more... it's how the Black Rock got inland that far. Also, Rousseau said she was studying geological stuff off of South America.

Maybe the button pushing deals with the island aligning itself with this alien planet where the original island inhabitants (the great old ones) came from. Seeing as the earth completes a rotation every 108 minutes from space.

Perhaps the button pushing is what keeps the island stationary.

If you keep searching...you find even more. But that's enough geekiness for one day. wink

Anyone here listened to the new 'post-Finale' Lost Podcast by Damon Lindelhof and Carlton Cuse, the show's executive producers? They talk about some interesting things (and they discuss one of my questions biggrin ).
