REALLY DESPERATE!!!!

Right!! I dont know where 2 start, but here goes!! On March 27th My husband and I finally emigrated back 2 the USA. The thing was we could only stay with my husbands twin sister, Mary and her husband for a week, as they already had Joe(my husband) and Marys' neice and nephew living with them cos their dad suddenly out of the blue up and left them carrying with him the ashes of their dead mother(another sister of Joes) with them in the glove compartment of his car and he could b in any of the 50 States of the Union!!! Also, Joe and I had a huge row in their place and they didnt want that type of thing in their house!! Anyway, between them Joe and Mary found an apartment which was $585 per month which we paid, plus the same amount in deposit and moved in one Sunday evening!! Anyway, 2 my mind the place wasnt worth $585 per month, when I have seen on www.rent.com far better apartments in far better places with much more facilities and amenities and in better surroundings for much less rent!! But anyway, I thought "Well, its a start, we can always move in a years time when our years lease is up". In the meantime, Joe decided 2 apply for Disability and SSI due 2 his diabetes and other related health problems he has and he was advised by the Human Services 2 look for work while all this was being processed, but Joe decided 2 just wait around untill he gets his SSI through, but he was issued with Food Stamps and Cash Assistance(In Colorado thats called AND - Aid for the Needy and Disabled). I ended up in such stress(mainly because we were in this apartment and there was no way we could come up with the following months rent) as well as suffering severe homesickness that I ended up being admitted in the ER there with failing health and was diagnosed with stress-related asthma. Was prescribed meds and I now have 2 carry around this huge pump!! Also, due 2 all this I kept calling up my parents using International calling cards from pay phones in the shopping malls in Greeley in floods of tears, totally stressed out with everything and with all of Joes family, who I have never really gotten on well with anyway!! So, my parents decided the best thing was for me 2 return back home 2 the UK and then return back once Joe had everything settled and things were less stressful!! So on the 9th of April I flew back home for which my parents paid for my return flight!! The thing is 2 weeks after that Joe gets evicted from this place cos they couldnt wait any longer for Aprils rent!!, So he goes and lives with one of his other sisters, he ends up falling out with them and heads 2 Hastings, Nebraska on the oral promise of work from a nephew who lives there!! I call him up when hes there and from what i surmized from his conversation he hadnt done an ounce of work there and all he has done is spent the time there socializing, in the meantime agencies he registered with in Greeley call him up with job offers, so he decided 2 head back 2 Greeley!! He gets back there and nothing pans out and he ends up living with yet another sister of his who lives in Greeley, but she lived in secured low income housing and one of the rules there is that visitors can only stay for 2 weeks and anyway very soon she was heading up 2 Alaska on a trip of a lifetime with some cousins!! Previously he was offered a place 2 stay with a neice of his in Longmont, CO(40 miles away), but he decided 2 take a trip 2 Alamogordo, New Mexico 2 another sisters of his, cos she said that if he came down there, he would find work, so he heads down there(approx 676 miles) and from what i gathered from conversations with him from there he made no attempt 2 find work there!! In the meantime, The Social Services in Greeley, CO had been trying 2 contact him via one of his sisters who they had the phone number of, cos they wanted some forms they sent him, but that hes been carrying around with him blank and not filled out, so he has 2 fill them out and sends them back 2 CO SS Offices(in Aurora). I tell him that he is 2 go back 2 Greeley, so that he can b on hand there for any developements in his Disability processing!!, So he heads back their(taking a detour 2 Lubbock, Texas 2 pay his last respects 2 his dead parents, which I was a bit pissed because right now I didnt think that was necessary at this point). When he returns back he couldnt stay with any of his sisters, so he ends up staying at a YMCA-type of shelter there where ex-prisoners also stay when they are released from prison(Joe says that u can pinpoint them out cos they have electronic tag bracelets on them!!). Byt this time I am on the verge of losing my Faith in him and life itself!! Then, suddenly, last week I was hit with inspiration, I thought I would try and get in contact with our ex-social worker in Blue Earth, Minnesota, who we also struck a freindship with cos she did a lot for us as a family with our son included when we lived there during the 90s!! So, I tried 2 find her phone number, which I did by sheer fluke on www.411.com, the online Directory Assistance!! So, I decided 2 call her up one day last week hoping she will remember us which she did and we had a long convo on the phone and I told her everything!!. She said that she would help anyway she can!! So after we both hung up I called Joe and told him about this and I gave him her phone number and she took his number but she said that she was going 2 a Freindship Camp-type of thing 2 do with the school in Blue Earth!! Well I thought and understood it was only a day thing but I kept calling her and theres no reply now for a week, so this camp thing must b a week long thing!! And she hasnt contacted Joe either!! In the meantime, Joe this past weekend heads straight for Blue Earth with this in mind that our social worker there is gonna help us, so he sells this months food stamps 2 one of his sisters(which is illegal) and draws out his AND cash assistance and heads off 2 Blue Earth!! I call him 2day and find out hes sleeping in the car cos he cant afford motels!!! Joe knows, that I am not returning back 2 him unless we have somewhere decent 2 live in!! Right now hes catching up with old freinds and trying 2 find somewhere 2 live and also some work!!

The thing is he is also drawing money out from our bank accounts we have here in the UK, cos with our accounts we can use them worldwide, so that is leaving me virtually penniless!! My parents cant help out much cos they are low money-wise, and they are waiting for the sale of the flat we lived in here in the UK 2 go through(they actually own the place), then they will b breaking even with the money from the sale!!

Also, things are not very happy with me living with parents right now, cos obviously, I have my way of living and they have theirs and theres pressure and tension all round!!

I really dont know which way 2 turn!!

The thing is, the SS Offices in Greeley, CO, told Joe that he will b receiving back-pay going back a year of SSI, 2 the total of almost $12,000 and if he DOES find work, even in MN, then it will b taken away from him and his claim will b cancelled!! Out of that $12,000, we have 2 pay the Hospital in Greeley almost $3,000 for the treatment I got when I was over there with him!!

well i definately feel ur pain but low income housing tend to have long ass waiting lists regardless of the "illegals" (i was on the mexicans thread) and i read ur whole thingy and still can't figure out how the mexicans have caused "all ur problems"

Can you work at all? You have to find a source of income for yourself.
Don't depend on that man to support you because it won't happen and it's healthier for you to earn your own money anyway. Are there any agencies that will help you get into the job market?
If you can't work, are there agencies to help you find a place of your own and help with living expenses?
Two people can't live on one person's SSI and food stamps in the US. At least not above bare subsistance level.That is a fact. It's also a fact that many Americans are living 'hand to mouth' and are only a paycheck or two away from being homeless or are homeless. Most states require some or all of the Aid to the Needy be paid back when you get on your feet.
The US can be the land of opportunity, but only for people who are willing to work.
