The DNC is no longer for sale! DNC issues a statement:
"The DNC and the Obama Campaign are unified and working together to elect Barack Obama as the next president of the United States . Our presumptive nominee has pledged not to take donations from Washington lobbyists and from today going forward the DNC makes that pledge as well," said Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. "Senator Obama has promised to change the way things are done in Washington and this step is a sure sign of his commitment. The American people's priorities will set the agenda in an Obama Administration, not the special interests."

I know. I saw that statistic on the evening news today and it amazed me. We can start to take back this country by supporting our own candidates and closing the gate on the groups that have locked us out of our own goverment. The only way it can happen though is that we all demand that it happen. [Edited 6/5/08 17:00pm] PRINCE.ORG FOR BARACK OBAMA

http://www.huffingtonpost...05407.html Before we get too excited at all the little angels over at the DNC, here's a bit of a reality check-Eugnj By Matt Kelley USA TODAY The Democrats' move is largely symbolic, since lobbyists are not a major source of contributions, said Sheila Krumholz of the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. Employees of the 10 largest lobbying firms have given $104,300 to the DNC and $37,400 to the Republican National Committee during this election cycle, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data compiled by the non-partisan CQ MoneyLine. That includes those employees who are not lobbyists. "It means a whole lot politically, but it doesn't mean much financially," Krumholz said. "I think this is an easy way to take the high road." [b]Political action committees — formed by corporations, labor unions or ideological groups — are a larger source of money. The DNC has taken $2.1 million of PAC money this election cycle and the RNC $1.7 million, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics. The ban on PAC money effectively blocks contributions to the DNC by labor unions, which are usually a key source of funding. current or former lobbyists are key advisers to McCain. Obama's campaign also bans active lobbyists from campaign jobs but has several lobbyists as informal advisers. Obama accepts donations from employees of lobbying firms who are not registered lobbyists; non-lobbyist employees of top 10 lobbying firms have given his campaign about $241,000, the USA TODAY analysis found. The DNC policy announced Thursday does not ban lobbyists from holding top positions within the organization. Lottie Shackleford, a vice chairman of the DNC, is a lobbyist for insurance firms State Farm and Allstate as well as student lender Sallie Mae. Obama's decision to limit the party's fundraising comes as the Democrats try to overcome the Republicans' huge advantage in party fundraising. The Associated Press reported Thursday that the DNC had raised $82.3 million this campaign cycle, while the Republicans had raised $166 million. The Republicans had $53.6 million in the bank at the end of May, dwarfing the $4 million the DNC had on hand. "The Democrats are in a bind. They need money wherever they can find it," Krumholz said. Its important to note that Barack Obama hasnt taken PAC money or lobbyist money during this campaign season. What the DNC has accepted to date in the way of contributions from PACs or registered lobbyists does not reflect on their new policy. I dont expect every former registered lobbyist to be run out of Washington but I do expect their role to be greatly diminished as a result of a Barack Obama led party.
