What are your thoughts? Actually, BHO himself has has some good thoughts on the matter. As in, how about making affirmative action more about financial status, rather than race. Makes sense. Thoughts?

I am FOR it...I wouldn't have a college education were it not for affirmative action.

What are your thoughts? The race-based affirmative action needs to be replace with a class-based/economical-based affirmative action. But to live in America without any affirmative action at all is a recipe for disaster.

I was a woman, a minority and made the grade. But even with the grades, I couldn't afford the education without the assistance. I was given a great opportunity and I gratefully took advantage of it. people see it as a zero-sum game - that's the problem. lifting anybody out of poverty, giving anybody an education, leveling the playing field for anybody is always to the benefit of society as a whole.

everybody shouold be equal. Affirmative Action is racism. Building this nation on the backs of the black race is racist too. It happened and nobody was compensated for it. To make matters worse, parts of this country took the ball and ran and created a life of misery and hell for blacks under the law this happened and civil rights hase been a reality for about 50 years. That is hardly enough timeto begin to make equal what happened. If someone is forced not to use their racists ideals to deny people jobs, housing, and other opportunities too fucking bad for them. Affirmative action should be based more on economics but until minorities don't fall so heavily into the poor column, then I think it is needed. . [Edited 6/6/08 15:13pm] I stay Woke.

What are your thoughts? No, that is not the reason Barack Obama is the nominee. He's the nominee because he "earned" it. No one handed it to him. Associating Affirmative Action with persons of African or African-American descent is very stereotypical. seeing how they weren't and aren't the majority of the benefectors of Affirmative Action. Secondly, if this country wasn't racist in the first place, then you wouldn't have to have affirmative action now would you? America is not, and I repeat is not "color-blind" or it would have been named the United States of Kumbaya, and it would actually be "united" but it is not a united country. What are your thoughts? So how does that work? People voted for him because . . . ? How does affirmative action work in the voting booth? Or is any success by someone other than a white person somehow due to affirmative action simply because they are successful? I guess Clinton because she is a woman is also a recipient of affirmative action? I can't make sense of how you think his nomination is affirmative action? It sounds like a knee jerk reaction to black success. Can't be because he's actually that good . . . . Thank you. I agree. I think Affirmative Action is still needed but should not and should never have been based on race. It should be based on poverty. Most blacks are poor and would benefit but so would poor whites and anyone of any color who is economically disadvantaged. Education is the easiest way to not only lift people out of poverty but let those people do what we all want to see happen. Create a bigger pie which means not only more for more people but bigger slices. Some people would probably argue against letting others at the table but this is America and we've repeatedly shown we can do it. Meanwhile, civic knowledge is enhanced by discussing public affairs, taking part in civic activities and reading about current events and history, the group said.

What are your thoughts? Dude u cant say that here, you will be labeled a racist and obama hater...we iz in obamaland! I'll try to pretend that is an attempt at humor and not to denigrate. Of course you can say ignorant things here. Plenty of people do constantly. Not supporting Obama doesn't make you a racist, why you don't might though. I don't think everyone opposed to Obama is a racist, but there are plenty that are. I am still waiting to see why his nomination is considered affirmative action. You make the statement but do not say what it is based on. everybody shouold be equal. Affirmative Action is racism. And, in case you didn't know, go talk to the white people that put affirmative action in place. I would love to have just one white person explain how it is okay to have people in slavery for four hundred years yet affirmative action for the last forty is wrong.
