I get so sick of that shit. When I go to work, I'm dressed as professionally as the rest of the people and I'll be damned if some chick doesn't grab her purse tighter. Fuck you bitch. lol

lol, this young lady in one of my old classes said her father did that to someone in an elevator. As she was getting off he made this loud sound. It's sad, but kinda funny.

As a 6'0, muscular built black man, I have seen it constantly since I was about 16. It took a long time but now I view it as their problem. They are the ones with the fear. I'm not going to lay down in a ball so some stranger feels more comfortable.
I just ignore them and let them live in their own fear and ignorance.
For fun sometimes I wait until I see someone white and then lock my car doors, cross the street, or clutch the bag I'm carrying. It always gets weird looks but I hope it at least makes them think and realize how they look.

Just watched the video - - AT WORK!!!
Where was the NSW or whatever?

all that aside . . . . . .

To be fair white people are uncomfortable in elevators even when everyone else is white, too.

We look at our toes, at the numbers, anything to avoid eye contact! lol

Exactly. It happens to me too and I'm like small fry but I guess I can be menancing as well to the others. I can grab my purse tighter than you, and I bet I have more money in my purse than you and better credit. So there! lol

I pull my bag closer no matter who you are in crowded elevators and the subway. New York women are notorious for having huge shoulder bags, so I usually pull mine to the front so it doesn't hit people and shit. For me it has everything to do with courtesy and nothing to do with race.

It's totally understandable and necessary. It's just funny when women (regardless of ethnicity) choose to do it. As opposed to just having it in position all the time, it takes the presence of somebody who may look like the type who would steal from them to lead them to do it. Even though it should happen subtly, I always notice when it happens and it actually draws more attention.

Many women do this no matter what race the man is. To assume that it's only being done to you is pretty stupid, imo.

When any man gets into an elevator with a women, many women feel a sense of nervousness...that's just the way it is. In any situation where women are isolated with an unknown man, women are on edge. As we all know women are often targets and we get nervous...if that offends you...well, too bad so sad.

It's stupid for a woman to feel this way about being alone with another woman though. That I don't get.

I'm sig-less. Happy, fuckers? mad

IMO the only people that are bothered by this are people who have been victims of racism. I tease for my own sick enjoyment, but some men that are black never even pay attention to that and actually feel sorry for women who live in such fear.

I agree with the fear being needless when its just another woman... dang if a woman is scared of other women too, then her ass needs to not carry a purse at all or just stay indoors. rolleyes

I can understand that people who get upset might have dealt with racism first hand, but really, this kind of situation does not automatically mean that the woman who shows a bit of nervousness is a racist.

And it's not about living in fear, it's about being aware that you can be a victim at any time by anyone...and unfortunately we live in a world where more often than not women are the victim. Knowing that you can be a victim can be nerve racking when you're in a situation when you're in a confined space alone with a man you don't know.

My point is that race may be a factor for some people but I think that many women would react the same way no matter what the dude's race was. A white man, a middle eastern man, any man can easily say that they get the same treatment in the same kind of situation.

You are exactly right... but you can't tell a person how to perceive another's behavior towards them when it happens to them often. If white women know it'll make them look racist and they have a problem being called or perceived as being racist, then don't do it.
If you don't care about someone thinking you're a racist if you clutch your bag, and you do it to guard yourself, then fuck how someone perceives it, if you do care and your bag isn't stolen then apologize when stepping off the elevator.

"Sorry... just protecting my shit, didn't do it 'cause you're black."

lol right?

And to me... if you do grab your purse up because you are afraid of it getting snatched up... you are living in fear because it is fear that is making you behave that way.

Shit women need to guard there bags when they eat outdoors at bistro tables, that's where most handbags are taken, esp. the designer bags.
