tickets and show in san diego

since i experienced the following i'm curious if npgmc-members really get the best seats and how many members there are in an area as big as san diego/los angeles???

on september 3rd i bought a ticket online through ticketmaster. i got literally the worst seat in the arena: row 34, which is the farest away (second last row). when i get to the will call box office at about 7:10 pm to pick up my ticket, i asked if they had better seats: to my big and nice surprise they had. i ended up having a FRONT-ROW ticket in sector mm just where prince was brouhgt beneath the stage and the musicians walked in an out. it was great for me, but the members two rows behind me sure weren't pleased... acutually i was not the only one, there was a woman next to me who had the same luck as i did, as did two people one row behind me. of course i had to buy two tickets since the arena didn't refund my online ticket. is this another funny way to make still more money???

the show was excellent and prince in a playfull and joking mood. here's a non-complete setlist (not in an exact order): musicology-let's go crazy-i would die 4 u- when doves cry-shhh-dmsr-call my name-renatosolo-accoustic set (little red corvette-i w b y l-cream-on the couch plus hillarious bues-satisfaction (yes, the rolling stones...)-7)-housequake-i feel 4 u-a love bizarre-controversy-let'swork-u got the look-poplife-take me with u-baby i'm a star-soul man-kiss-purple rain. and lot's of james brown and sly stone here and there. anyone has an accurate setlist?

anyone heard of an aftershow at a club supposedly called "cane's" in mission bay?

oh, by the way, i also am the lucky funkateer from switzerland who caught prince's hat he through into the crowd like a boomerang after wearing it the first 20 minutes into the show...

I was 3 rows behind you we had(MM) the best seats I think in the house Congrats catching that hat it looked almost like it could have made it just another row back..Ticketmaster does at times open up Tickets the day of the concert for what ever reason and by the luck of the draw some people such as yourself are lucky And if I might add you were amoungst 90 percent Npg members in thats section whooo hoooo its was a Beautiful Night was it not.....smile

I was in section MM seat 6. I was asked on stage by Prince. I know you remember me. I'm still on cloud 9. The show was great.

Call My Name was a nice surprise.....

Most likely, one of two things happened:

  • Your seat was added to the pool of available tickets on the day of the show, after the stage was set up. By that time, the NPGMC seats would have already been assigned. Until they get the stage set up, it's hard to know exactly how many seats they can fit on the floor. (For instance, I noticed that there was more room for floor seating on the long sides of the venue at the Indianapolis concert than at the Seattle shows.) So, they probably erred on the side of caution when they first put tickets on sale.

  • Your seat had been reserved (e.g., the promoter may have been given some seats to distribute as they saw fit), but it was determined shortly before the show that the seat would go empty, and thus it was put in the ticket pool for sale to the general public. Again, by this time the NPGMC seats were already assigned.

I've read many stories like yours--it's not an uncommon thing for prime concert seats to go onsale the day of the event for the above reasons.

BTW, at the second Seattle show we sat in the front row next to two women who said they'd been upgraded from their original seats to the front row. I was curious where their original seats were, and whether they were NPGMC members, but I didn't pry. I have heard about Bruce Springsteen holding back the front rows and having his crew upgrade people in the "cheap seats," although I wonder if Prince would prefer to upgrade NPGMC members.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.
