it bothers me that there are so many sophomoric threads about 'butt, dick, pussy, cum', etc. here too. it really does set a tone when such threads cover the entire front page of the GD forum. i went on a rant about this very topic a while back. nothing much ever came of that

it was pointed out to me that some people like those threads, and therefore those threads are equally as legitimate as any others. which is a valid point.

also i agree with 2the9s that creating a new forum to drain silly threads off won't 'solve' the 'problem'.

i also agree with Zelaira that Prince has always attracted the 'quirky' types and that letting them roam free on this site in all their unmedicated glory is a 'good' thing.



i wonder if the 'over 18' threads could somehow be filtered so only 'eighteen and over' could access them? that way the threads themselves would come with little electronic advisory disclaimer pages that would pop up prior to allowing access to the thread content????

I didn't like the Sex Forum. It became way too perverted and attracted too many immature posts.

The Org as it is now isn't what it used to be. I think we've banned some people who made the site more interesting and provoked good debate, mainly for their radical and offensive views, but it also meant that interesting threads were being created.

I think some people have been rightly banned in the past, but I'm not sure that all of the people who have left should have had lifetime bans.

What we're left with are stayers, loyalists and lightweights. (I'm in these categories as well). We need more heavy-duty Orgers who didn't create only sex threads and would be quite cutting with those that did. Unfortunately those people are lost to us, never to return and we're reaping the rewards (i.e. dumb threads created by dumb people).

btw for Banana for opening up this discussion. I've been able to post what's been on my mind for a couple of years now and, although I've written it many times in the past, it feels good to be able to get it off my chest once again

not to be an ass, but...

what 13 year old is going to be into prince at this point? it's almost like worrying about a 82 year old that gets a copy of an NWA album for christmas - the odds are incredibly low.

Let it be known that I work in a very, very liberal work place that deals openly with sex and sex-related topics on a daily basis. Even still, like somebody already said, it's a bit embarrassing to have some of these thread titles pop up on screen. Even if I don't go in them, they're still there for anybody who walks by my computer screen to see!

I wasn't here for the sex forum, so I guess I can't really say how another forum like it could be changed to work better than it ultimately did. Like sos said, perhaps some sort of flag could denote these threads. The big downside to this I think would that it would require even heavier-handed moderation. There are plenty o' threads in the GD forum (or poop and sex forum, as I like to call it) now that break forum rules and there doesn't seem to be much done about them as is. I like a good number of people that are primarily stationed in that forum, and were things cleaned up a bit more in there, I'd be more likely to hang out there.

Given that any change to alleviate this would require more moderation or busier moderators, how would y'all keep up? I seem to tattle on offenders a lot, and that gets old, I guess. Maybe mods just need to be more strict about follow forum guidelines? I dunno. There's no solution that's going to make people happy, that much I know.

re: flagging system

1) ownership would be on the individuals to flag their "naughty" threads before they are created.

2) flagging "sticky" threads dont take that long..so if we did catch a thread we could have it flagged within seconds...

as far as managing extreme offenders..well, we do that now anyways.

i don't mind the sex threads in General Discussion, and i don't mind the jokes in them either. i think the discussions about let's say homosexuality in Politics and Religion are much worse, i mean that i sometimes feel hurt personally by the opinions expressed there.

i do think an 18 & Over forum would be a good idea, but i do think it should be moderated. the same rules as there are now should apply. i am very open and honest: i enjoy talking about sex and i love to have some cheeky fun: i have participated in some of these threads. i don't like to post explicit pictures however (i use orgnotes for that if i want to), or hurt people.

there's one thing that bothers me in the sex threads however: we have to keep in mind that unsafe sex is still a great risk and how unaware people still are. a discussion about tasting/swallowing cum for example is in the day and age of safe sex a big mistake.
