Do U Like the Track Stickies? Yay or Nay, and Why or Why Not?

A single sticky for each song...

A single sticky for all other things PE...

Does this work for you? I just perused all the stickies of the track threads, and found all positive discussion... that's cool! wink But, is everyone happy with this? What would you prefer?

Let us know what you think... but, let's have some "positivity"... have you had your plus sign today?

Thanks,

June7

In this case, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Just sayin'. lol

But I'm glad you've got the poll up. I think your idea for a thread for each track is a good one and a vast improvement over one thread for the whole album. And maybe it's the best way to handle it. But it's not the only way. I'm interested to see the feedback.

nice unbiased approach.

Sorry, I didn't think it came off that one-sided... I've edited it to be more fair and generic, as it should have been initially. redface

First of all, anyone that is a moderator is performing an impossible job that I could never.

Secondly, I can see the stickies often working, but I just read an excellent production review on HQ that reminded me of how much creativity there was back several years ago.

Stickies, and this "all opinions are created equally" philosophy, do not shine very brightly on someone wishing to branch out to something different.

All people are in fact created equally, all opinions unfortunately are not. Someone who sweats for three weeks I trust a whole lot more than someone who listened once and concluded that it was a "wasted 30 minutes".

I want to see all thoughts, but that last one doesn't really deserve its own thread. wink

And no disrespect at all to "It Rules!". This is sometimes what one is feeling, and it should be said, but even they would likely admit that it's not the same thing as the person who is working tirelessly to produce an article.

Today most excellent/intelligent writing would either be locked or forced to butt up alongside a whole thread of "It Sucks" and "It's Great!" type posts that took 5 seconds to type.

It's also less than ideal that a million subjects can be created regarding music older than 12 months. But if you want to discuss the music that was just released with some depth, you either join the crowd or you wait to discuss it when the next new album gets released.

But this isn't just another post bemoaning what the inter web has become. No, not at all. The way it evolves, for both the good and the bad, is fine with me. And I wouldn't be here If I couldn't find anything to sink my teeth into.

Just one person's opinion regarding the absolute impossible task that is before you, and fortunately not me.

Good luck! You're gonna need it in these troubling times. lol

I need an editor, edit!

Sorry, this thread seems to have died completely. A fate unfortunately often associated with me. wink

I didn't read the original thread first, as I didn't even know it existed. So I just popped over here without knowing.

This should be perfect evidence of how awkward this is to carrying on conversations.

The real conversation was taking place on a now locked thread. Here I'm just pissing in the wind. wink

And perhaps I should be segregated, but I prefer real communications amongst other live humans.

I can literally hear crickets in here.

Brendan, I fully co-sign your point of view. As for the stickies, in this day and age of the org, I believe it's a good idea.

This is EXACTLY what stickies are meant for.

And mods: watch how many fewer threads you will be locking now that each song has its own sticky.

As busy as this board is, the stickies seem to be really helpful in keeping things organized. IMO, they're a good idea.

I say no.

its because they take up too much room on the front page of the forum, and you cant see where the real action is.. they get in the way.

I say yay. I think it's better for those of us who don't have PE yet, and don't want to ruin the experience when we get it.

I also say nay...because it takes up a lot of space. Maybe there could be a temporary sub-forum?

Nope. I really don't see why people couldn't just do a review by song in the one PE thread instead of having a thread for the album and ten separate threads for each song.

Also, I don't understand why there are stickies where the album hasn't officially been released yet. It's basically an invite to have people ask for the bootleg.

I think it kinda stifles individualism...
if some one has a unique take or question on a song their post just gets lost in the hundreds of other posts.

For as out of control some of the postings can get on the org I think having a sticky for each track was a great idea

Do I really need to mention the irony inherent in June7 locking the thread we already had on this topic - where I stated my views very clearly on this subject - only to create a new sticky thread?

That thread should not have been locked. This is the site discussion forum, and we were discussing the site.

http://www.prince.org/msg/3/234655

I moderated this site for a few years, and I've no doubt I made just as many mistakes as the current mods, if not more. However one area you have to be very careful with moderation is in threads regarding moderation - in the Site Discussion forum. I therefore call upon June7 to do the right thing and unlock the original thread, and have some real discussion of the points I and others raised.

Concur 100%. If we want to discuss the album as a whole we can do so on the big Planet Earth thread. If we want to have a more indepth discussion about one song in particular we can go to that particular thread. It does look kinda weird to see all the stickies, but that's just a matter of getting used to it I suppose. And if someone comes up with a different/better system, that's fine too. But I like this approach. thumbs up!

But now the album has been officially released--only in the UK, but still official; and you can buy it off of ebay--there are tons from the Mail on Sunday give away for sale there. shrug
