My thoughts on the moderation around here.

First I want to take the time to thank Anxiety for answering my many org-notes today. He was totally decent to do that.

That being said -

One of my threads was moved today, to the Prince M&M forum, where it promptly dropped to page 2. I was here in GD wondering what the hell happened to my thread, as a few side conversations had started to occur. I thought it had been deleted (I didn't know threads got 'moved').

This pissed me off monumentally.

When I start threads, I don't expect them to stay on topic the entire time. I think the fun comes when we start shooting off on tangents. This particular thread was about the Prince specials on TV tonight, and maybe rightly so it was more relevant to the M&M forum. I still don't like it, but I'll accept it.

However.

I posted a poem in this forum before, because I liked the crowd in here and I wanted the feedback from them. That stayed in here (althom made a joke about me posting it in the 'creative' forum) and people conversed about it, gave me feedback (which was cool), and I didn't think twice about it. I did a haiku thread, same thing. Now - if I ever post some creative writing of mine in here, whatever it may be, it will be because I want the people here in the GD to read it, and if it's moved, I promise you I will be gone. I've never been involved with messageboards where threads have been moved before so this is brand new to me. The absence of moderation at my other messageboards is as prevalent as the presence of it here.

This is not meant to stir any ill will. I just need to get it off my chest.

Thanks for reading.

Absolutely never, ever will you hear me say 'conversate'. One of my good friends refused to talk to a man because he said, "Let me conversate with you for a minute".

She said, "Conversate is not a word" and left him with his jaw on the ground.

I understand what your saying, and you have every right to discuss your feelings. Still, you read the site rules, and you know this is a moderated site.

I hope this next action does not make you split for good, but - this thread is in the wrong forum, and it's been moved.

Conversely, I like the fact that all the discussions on here are broken up into several different forums. I can find what I'm lookin for more easily. If there was noone moderating this, we'd probabbly wind up with everyone posting in one forum and leaving the others empty, simply because its the most active and they want their thread to be seen.

And if that was the case, your thread would get knocked off the first page of that forum much faster, and you would have to weed through alot more posts that perhaps dont interest you. Try imagining if all of Prince Music & More and Music:Non Prince and Politics & Religion was all dumped into GD right now...

I'm the one who moved the thread. It was a Prince related topic, and despite other sub-topics that were going on, it was still, at heart, a Prince related topic and as such was in the wrong forum.

Yes, I know, I didn't realize things were so formal. Now I'm becoming very critical of every thread title I read. Someone wrote some lyrics for another poster last night. Should that be moved to the arts forum? I don't think so, and it wasn't, but technically it could be.

No, things aren't extremely formal....everyone is just doing their part in an effort to make this a fun and lovely place...

try not to get to discouraged by the moderation ..remember, we have a tough balancing act to maintain..sometimes things go your way and other times it might not.....

we try to be as fair as possible..we really do..as a group we review each other's actions and debate constructively (in our very own secret org-cave).....

but please dont think you are being picked on or something..there are now way to many eyes to let that happen...

Thank you, sos.

I can't entirely verbalize what I want to say but just 'thank you' for your words and sincerity and concern.
