Prince appears on the Millions More Movement "soundtrack"

Hip-Hop Artists Unite For 'One Million Strong Vol. 2'
By EbenGregory
Date: 10/14/2005 12:50 pm

In an effort to commemorate the Millions More Movement, Isonic Media Group and Bungalo Records will release One Million Strong Volume 2, the official soundtrack to the Millions More Movement.

The stellar CD features compositions from some of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars who have contributed to the soundtrack album as a show of their support and passion for the movement.

The CD also aims to share the experience of the Millions More Movement with those unable to attend the monumental event.

One Million Strong Volume 2 contains new, original compositions by Prince, Mos Def, Kanye West featuring Common and Mase (Jesus Walks remix), Ludacris featuring Trick Daddy (Hopeless), Goodie Mob (Black History), New Edition featuring Too Short (One Love), Mike City and Chino XL.

The enhanced CD also features video clips, hidden tracks, downloads, live chats with the artists, event and celebrity photo galleries, merchandising and more.

The Millions More Movement comes to life on the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March, the landmark event which mobilized over one million African-American men, women and children across America toward the cause of unity.

The Millions More Movement will feature prominent social justice advocates, members of Congress, Hip-Hop artists, civil rights activists and business leaders.

The Millions More Movement takes place on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Washington, DC.

And probably worth noting that in fact it appears to just be 'We March' from The Gold Experience rather than a 'new, original composition' as stated.

'We March'...? I know it's suitable for the situation but 'We March'? I don't mind the song so much, there's definetly some individuals that strongly dislike the track. There's some other powerful songs that could have been used from his catalog.

If I were the person or people behind this soundtrack I wouldn't accept a tired 10 year old song even if it's Prince. Give me a new track or we'll have to pass on your ass. Prince has so many "grooves on the shelf" that he can simply go into his "vault" and pick a song for any occasion or purpose. Or better yet do like he just did with "SST" and simply record a new one. rolleyes

Question: On another post about this story it say "songs" as if to imply Prince contributed more than one. True or not?
As for "We March", not a favorite, but fitting, I guess. shrug

I think you'll find it uses the plural 'songs' because it mentions a list of artists including Prince offering 'songs' for the album - in the sense of a song each.

Geez, people are so desperate for new Prince songs right now they'll reach at every little straw...

yeah, it was just an oversight in the press release, or else a subtle "omission" to get people looking...though unfortunately, i don't think the rest of the world is as desperate for new prince songs as we fans are.

Thanks for the clarification.
As for the rest of the world not being as desperate for new Prince music as we are, don't be so sure. I was watching the Situation Room on CNN the other day. Wolf Blitzer may be talking Iraq, and hurricanes and Harriet Miers and Karl Rove, but his eyes were saying "Damn, when is Prince gonna get some new music out there? SST was fine, but I need more. Now." Yep, that's what the eyes were saying. lol

Something profound from Prince might complicate things. Much needed.

We March?! Oh man, of ALL the songs to pick!

That's like picking Poom Poom as your Prince song for a soundtrack about sex.

Lame news. We march. Can you believe that fool made an outtake out of Days of wild and left that on there, especially after making such a big deal about days of wild before gold came out?

If you listen to the lyrics of this song and know anything about the purpose of the march - or the Civil Rights Movement for that matter, it is obvious that this song is the best fit on a thematic basis. I do believe it was turned down by the Nation of Islam at the original Million Man march 10 years ago when Prince offered it.

I haven't noticed anyone highlighting the fact that "We March" was in fact composed for the original MILLIONS MAN MARCH. In my opinion the song is quite suitable and the event organizers probably feel the same because the phone number they selected for us to call is, are you ready?

1-800-WE MARCH
