Dez's Oneman

Dez Dickerson's cd isn't bad at all. It took me awhile to get into it. But while listening to it on a long drive, I really grew to appreciate. There's no explicit sexual lyrics or excessively funky beats either. But it's a solid piece of work. My favorite songs are Merry-Go-Round, This Song is For You and Real to me. What I like most about Dickerson is his "faith" is subtle rather than heavy-handed. Nice work.

Every religious rock album should be this well made. Its unfortunate that enough people didnt hear it. Dez is an independent, black rock artist which has always dogged his career. It almost guarantees that he will be ignored.

THe song, PeaceHopJoy, rocks as hard as anything out there. Hear Love Somebody as well

His guitar playing is on point - love the outro solo on "Merry Go Round". The whole album is kind of, "beatlesque".

J.D., I was going to say the same thing.

Yeah, I was looking for the right word and that's it. Very Beatles. I hate that he isn't getting the notoriety he deserves. But the market tends to pigeonhold people and ignore those over 25 altogether. I think this was made in 1997. I hope Dez is working on a new cd.

It does - which makes it a great spiritual album. I am not even religious but I feel the joy and sunshine when I play this cut. The album makes you feel good. THat is what music should do.

Funny you should mention spiritual. Dez's album is spiritual but never religious. I think that's why it's so good. It appeals to the best in all of us. The quest for coherence in one's life, love, acceptance and redemption without the fire and brimstone. Excellent album. It gets better everytime I listen to it. I love "This Song is For you".....It's my new favorite now. Who knows what it'll be tomorrow. If you havent' bought this cd, go get it. It's a wonderful antidote to all the b.s. out there on top 40 radio. I love black rockers ... Prince, Kravitz, Living Colour and Dez....we need more of them.

Just a quick sidenote about the coolness of the Oneman album. A friend of mine and part-time Prince fanatic asked to borrow it. So I complied and afterwards he told me, "it's okay." Fine, I thought, this guys doesnt' like it as much as I do. Well it's been several days now and he still haven't relinquished my cd. I'm telling you people, the album grows on you..
