Hey Michael,

Thanks for uploading that live The Jam/Shhh! on your website! Could you upload more live material with soundboard quality from that era??

Take care,

thanx for calling that to my attention.. that was not supposed to end up there. my web programmer took liberties he was not supposed to, and uploaded some bootleg material he found.. that will be taken down, immediately..

michael b.

If you give me the job as your web programmer I won't tell you know who about you know what being uploaded you know where... LOL cool

Now seriously, great to know I helped you out a bit.

Take care,

Michael,

Has there ever been a song (with Prince or anyone else) where you layed down the basic tracks, thought the song was great, then heard the final mix with all the vocals and over-dubs added and just went shake when you heard the final version?

not that i can remember...

michael b.

Then have you ever laid down the basic track and thought it was an OK song and then heard the final mix and went eek AMAZING!

I think I read in an earlier post from you about still getting some royalties from songs you recorder with prince.

Are you notified or aware ahead of time when a new release hits with you on it (like say the just released Ultimate Prince which you play on some tracks) or do you just "surprise" get a check in the mail?

Michael,

In your opinion, how does (did) so much bootlegged material get out from Prince's camp?

i don't recall having an experience like that.. in popular forms of music created in western civilization, the drums dictate the song structure, and kinda tell everyone else what to do, as accompaniment. prince's post production was always dense and interesting. but, he used a lot of similar devices, from song to song. he definitely has a style..

One mo' question...

Sorry if it's been asked before. I've been reading these threads on-and-off for the last few weeks and haven't seen this question addressed yet - sorry if I missed it somewhere along the line...

You are credited with playing drums on "So Far, So Pleased" (on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic album). Were you called up again to play drums on that track or did Prince just use a pre-recorded track of your drumming from when you were still in the band?

Thanks!!

Michael,

I had heard talk of Miko coming out with a solo effort after he left Prince, do you know if that project ever saw the light of day?

If I may interrupt smile...
Many Dutch Prince-fans will remember Miko & The Boombox, they did some shows over here in the mid-90's (if my memory is right)...some demo's were recorded, here in Holland too, but I am not sure if there ever was a proper CD release.

In 1995, Miko & The Boombox played a gig in Hasselt (province Limburg Belgium) @ the jazzfestival Hasselt In The Mood, which I organised.
I have nice pictures of that gig. But I never heard of any demo or full-cd.

Hi Michael, nice 2 have u here and reading your posts wink
I saw u and Sonny back in 2000 in Monopoli (south Italy, near Bari...where i live) when u were touring with Giorgia...u also signed a little piece of paper 2 me that night biggrin

I got a couple of question for u:

1) Did u (and Sonny) enjoy working with Giorgia and how did u meet her for the first time and decided 2 play together? was it boring recording that kind of music? (meaning that is different from Prince style and other styles u have covered)

2) question about 2 instrumental jams u guys used 2 play back in 93 / 94:
first one is the guitar instrumental usually played in 1993 tour after she's always in my hair (a guitar outro with some sort of echo) and also played a few times in 1994 (intro at the Stars & Bars show in Montecarlo).
The other one is the instrumental played before The Ride on the Undertaker VHS...when Vanessa Marcil enters Paisley Park...
Were these 2 just instrumental jams?...unreleased material (unreleased songs)? or instrumental covers I don't recognize?

Thanx 4 replying Michael wink
[Edited 8/17/06 9:52am]

yes, we enjoyed working with giorgia. rickey minor called and said that he and michael baker had a conflict with some of giorgia'a dates. he wanted me and sonny to cover for them. she dug us, and asked us back, later on.
no, it wasn't boring, but definitely different. we had to take her music and "americanize" it. italian pop is a bit archaic, and behind whatever is happening in the states. she wanted us to give her songs kinda a facelift..
we had alot of fun. italy is like my home away from home. i love it there...

i don't know what songs you're talking about.. sorry-

michael b.

thanx michael! wink

honestly, the last record i listened to, in it's entirety, was betty davis's "they say i'm different".. but that's only because a houseguest kept playing it over and over..

hopefully, the future of R&B is in bringing real instruments back..
we'll see-

Hello, again, Mr. Bland!

Did Prince ever sit head-to-head with you to show you a beat pattern or rhythm idea he might've had?
...or did he just beatbox it aloud?!!

Greetings from Germany and thanks for stickin' around!

Michael, any thoughts on the track Interactive? This seemed like a great, fun song, which was a staple in '94 shows, but as far as I know, it was never played after that - not even once on the European tour, or the '95 Paisley Park shows, if I remember right. Did Prince (or the band) get sick of playing it?
