Prince confirmed in Official Glastonbury paper Sunday edition.

I just got back from Glastonbury last night. Everyday there was a festival paper given out for free and on the Sunday edition there was a picture of Prince on the second page and it said:

Perhaps it was a loathing of latrine trauma, but after much summer speculation it was announced that Prince will definitely not be appearing at Glastonbury this year. Nevertheless, despite rumours of huge appearance fees and expensive entoureage costs, festival organizer Micahel Eavis has announced that the sexually-charged pop dwarf will be strutting his stuff at next year's event.
"Money didn't really feature with Prince," confirmed Eavis. "I offered him some fair old dosh but then he changed his booking agency, so the deal fell through."
"Galstonbury could have been a reason for him to come to Britain and do a lot of other shows, but he wasn't quite ready. But they did say he'll do next year."
"He's made for the Sunday night slot. He's a big name, a big performer, he's full-on and he won't let anybody down. He's a classy act, although I haven't got any of his records, to be honest with you." But of course.

wow. Sounds like the real deal since it came from the festival paper. Get your tents ready kids cuz 2004 is gonna be goood!

Prince at glastonbury 2004... yeah right...

Australia has more chance of getting a tour in 2004 than Prince doing Galstonbury festival.

Theres more chance of Wendy & Lisa will join Prince in 2004 for a Revolution reunion than Prince playing the Galstonbury festival.

(Sorry guys, I'd really like 2 be positive and see him tour there 4 u, but don't pin all your hopes on it. Being a Prince fan, u guys should know things fall through / change / rearrange at the last minute)

can i ask if Prince has been flaky in recent years like maybe the past two years? i know he has a long history of flakiness but i think that he has been quite good with his flakiness in recent years and been a bit honourable. all this negativity i think is coming from the negative views of Prince in the Hahn book, the poor website and the less than desired NEWS.
i think he will play. if Eavis says he will than i think he will.
it's so boring to discuss this issue of flakiness.

I still say its a bad idea...nobody takes him seriously (outside his fanbase anymore)...he's just another Michael Jackson to most people.

He will sooo get the usual tretament mainstream pop artists do at Glastonbury...bottles of piss thrown at him on stage - Ive seen it happen before...not nice!!!

fine. i think he will go down great. ONA live wasn't too heavy with the religious talk anyway so i think even if he does mention God or Jesus or whatever, i'm pretty sure he won't be bombarded with pee. Jimmy Cliff talked about God this year. nobody minded.

If you went to the Wembly Stadium gig back in 93-ish...thats the type of gig I think he should do - that would go down a treat at Glasto, I hope he hasnt turned his back on that style completely.

If he can rekindle that type of show...raw and powerful,it would be wonderfully received.

What is wrong with getting a little excited about Prince playing Glastonbury?? Yeah we know it might not happen (ie he was supposed to play this yeah) but then again it might happen!!

Why wouldn't Prince play Glastonbury?? It is one of the two most famous festivals in the world - along with Woodstock. I think he would love it!

Glastonbury is an anything goes type festival - he can spout off about JW if he wanted and the crowd wouldn't mind. Then he could play similar to ONA and people would love it! The varied music - mixing in a few classics with the new stuff. Glastonbury isn't about bands that everyone loves! As people have mentioned - Moby to Radiohead play over the three days using 13 different stages/tents. Its a music festival and people go who appreciate music!!

Hello folks. I'm a Glastonbury veteran, having been to eight of 'em - and I feel I'm qualified to offer the following advice to the honourable Mr. Nelson:

1. The Glastonbury crowd is a community. Everyone's looking out for everyone else like at no other festival and there's an overwhelming feeling of cameraderie. It's your job to tap into this.

2. Today, Prince, you were voted "No. 1 artist who has disappeared up their own behind" on Channel 4's 'Planet Sound' here in the UK. This, then is the public image you have to contend with.

3. At the festival which has just been, Radiohead were headliners. Everyone knows how much they hate playing their old hits, but they did it, because it was the only way the crowd would let 'em play the newer, freakier tunes (which I prefer). And they did it all smiling. So if you go 'off on one' and play interminable funk jams or noodly guitar for an hour, you'll effectively be written off in the UK as finished and hopelessly out-of-touch.

4. I might add that if you do that you will also have cider bottles full of warm urine lobbed at your head.

5. If, on the other hand, you play 'Purple Rain' and tunes which have actually reached the British charts, you'll be justly celebrated as a master of the arts and an all-round fine geezer and give all present a wondrous warm glow. You must also remember that substances abound. There is hash flapjack and morning glory seeds and crazy cubensis sold and bartered up by the stone circle which lies on ley-lines direct from Glastonbury Tor... so the more cosmic, the better. People want to get stratospheric - take them there!

6. Sermons on Jehovah? You might as well tell everyone to far cough. We came to party.

7. Finally, you have a LOT to prove in the UK due to a run of albums which have been, frankly, pants. I love you man, but musically you seem to having a bad hair decade. This show will be going out on TV the same night (if you don't whinge about rights, etc.) and in all seriousness it's going to be make or break for you. Don't blow it.
