Lovesexy's One Track ID

It kills me.

I'm going to have to re -record it in SOund Forge and Track it out the way it should be.

Does anyone Know Why in the world would a Label Release an Whole Album With only One Track ID???

no idea. The thing that bugs me about this is that once I've listened to a cd enough times, I usually prefer playing it on random - either by itself, or with a bunch of other cds. With Lovesexy, you have to listen to the entire thing straight through. At least it's a DAMN good one.

I don't know but that should offer some proof that it wasn't easy for Warner Bros. to work with Prince.

A few other examples:

No advance single/video for Around The World In A Day.

Prince cut the promotion for Sign O' The Times short, then decides to quickly release another album, the Black Album, then changes his mind again and decides to release Lovesexy. This must have been a nightmare for Warner Bros.

No advance single/video for Lovesexy.

The whole name change fiasco.

Maybe Warner Bros. did some bad things to Prince but it runs both ways. He screwed with them as much as they screwed with him.

I seem to remember Alphabet Street being released as a single before the album was released. Clear tape in a clear box.
And the video was released before the album.
Maybe I'm wrong.

It's because he wanted people to listen to the whole album as one piece, he was making a statement, the album is the full statement.

He wasn't going to do any videos to begin with.

And this has been discussed a lot on here, but the tracked version is now more common in Europe than the non-tracked version.

You can pick them up online if your not in Europe, from say, hmv.co.uk.

The one track Lovesexy CD doesn't bother me at all. I think it's a cool novelty--not that I want every CD to be just one track, but it makes Lovesexy kind of special. I never play CDs on random anyway so if Prince wants the album to be listened in a certain way, then that's the way I'll listen to it.

Could be my mistake. Not positive about this one.

I've spoken on this matter before... I appreciate that in 1988 he wanted his album to be listened to as a whole. In the year 2004, I want to be able to go to my favorite songs, so with today's technology, I tracked it myself.

It's really easy to do if you have a MAC mac. You can even amplify the sound in a program like SoundStudio, so you don't have to crank up your stereo volume full blast to hear it.

Add the 12" singles and b-sides... walah, you're own Special Edition, Remastered, Tracked CD, of Lovesexy. And if you're like me and you know that Lovesexy is still the one, after all these years, it'll be worth it to track it yourself.

I did that.

A lovely listen.

Also did it with Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Parade and Sign "O" The Times.

I miss The Revolution.

I find the one track cd infuriating!! When we can now make up cd compilations Lovesexy has to be excluded(except eye no) because of the one track. I would love to include Glam Slam, I Wish U Heaven or Lovesexy but I cant! In fact I was doing a glam comp recently and wanted to kick off with Glam Slam but no-can-do! If and when the reissues appear hopefully we'll get the individual tracks instead of the one track id.

Agreed. Although I would belive that some of these things would not be possible due to time constraints. ATWIAD came out before PR was out for a year....hell I would even imagine that some singles were still running their course. ANd he was touring. Same with Lovesexy...he finished the album within a very short period to offset the black album which was due out. And touring. There was probably no time for a video. No singles or videos were going to come out for the Black Album (I could Be wrong on this) and Lovesexy was NOT single heavy...quite the opposite. I am sure those were factors in delays in the single releases.

both the single and the album came out on May 10 1988.

For me, it's a hard pick...tracked or non. I realize why it is one track, however I see that it perhaps should not be as there are definitive gaps inbetween songs. for that reason alone I think it should be tracked.

Here's a question for the masses. If Lovesexy was to be re-released, do you think he'll track it or no?

That's exactly what I did. It's sort of a pain in the booty! I guess it gives us an idea of what it was like for WB to deal with Prince during his egomaniac days.

I think it's one of the worst ideas he's ever had.

I can listen to an album all the way through just fine, I didn't need Prince to force me by making it one long track.
