It sounds like discussions aren't as free and forthright on the NPGMC website, as they R on the org. Maybe folk R afraid of offending him by saying something negative over there, although it may B true...

>> NPGMC? If he has closed down all these fan sites, does he expect us all to flock there as a substitute?

No, not all of his core fans frequent these sites, but they are one hell of a powerful advertising tool for him as someone who doesnt use the mainstream media. Unfortunately, if he wants the positive advertising from them, he has to make do with the negative advertising too... Especially as he doesnt have to pay for this advertising in the first place.

I suppose what he is doing is akin to MTV airing his latest single 5 times a day and Prince benefiting enormously. But then MTV plays a recorded concert that he never gave permission for. So he takes legal action. MTV then decided, as a result to boycott any new releases by Prince.

Prince loses airplay [advertising]. Is it worth it over a bit of footage that could only serve the purpose of raising his profile even further?

Prince NEEDS sites like the Org and HQ. They are his outlet for information...[/quote]

I'm a member of Housequake. My issue isn't really with the bootleg thing, although the anit-discussion part is ridiculous, my issue is with the 'unauthorized use of pictures" thing.

He has no right to say that Quake has to take down pictures that he doesn't own the rights to. Most of the time, before a person is photographed [I'm speaking in reference to the studio and professional pictures] they sign a model release. The rights to the picture are given to the photographer and they have to right to display this picture and add it to their portfolio, or if it's for the use of a magazine, specifically to that magazine. Prince cannot say that the pictures can't be posted because they're not his to control. Yes, he has right to his likeness, but he does not have the right to refuse someone else's work to be displayed.

I don't know if that made sense, but in a nutshell: He's being a douche.

Unfortunately 4 us ('us' being the fan sites) he has every right 2 do so if he so wishes, it's a bit of a grey area, but it's a little something known as 'intellectual copyright' im sorry 2 say.

All I can say with any certainty is that 'issues' aside, all fansites galleries are done out of love.

Yes this thread has had legs of it's own. Lot's to read. Not sure where we are at...but I am WENDY right now along with a few others. smile lol

Anyway the comment about all the people I mentioned, was just showing examples of people who care about him and his music and do things to promote it. They spend lots of time and money...even Bobby in his own way nod I think so. Even me when I throw a P party or when I ALWAYS play him for an hour at the end of my set at the oxygen bar now...it's become a staple. Sure I am getting paid..and maybe a little extra cuz the gals love his music so much wink but I am also exposing him to crowds...and that really the goal. Keeping his thing alive for others to enjoy. At least that how I think it.

And dangit I am so jealous...how was Wendy and Lisa?????

the cb fiasco....*shudders* shake

confuse someone fill me in?

P says CB is coming out...the Outtake album we had always been waiting for. Though we knew it may not have all of the songs we wanted or thought that should be on there, still a bone is a bone. He siad we could all preorder it by calling 1-800-NEW-FUNK. That's the set up....

He had no idea of the overwhelming response he was about to get. The number was already in working order before this...not sure how busy it was...but it became really busy...really fast. From what I recall ordering it was a fiasco and you had to WAIT WAIT WAIT to get the order in...once you actually got through. And then you waited and waited for something to hit your mailbox that never came...they were backlogged with orders.

Now these orders...you were getting the 3 disk CB, the Truth and Kamasutra. There was going to be a retail version but Kamasutra wasn't going to be part of it or something. It basically hit the stores before it got int he mail. If you were patient and didn't call to cancel your order, you were sent a cassette of The War as a booby prize (a good one by the way).

I ended up being one of those that bought it at the store and called to cancel my order...and that was a bitch beyond compare! And when asked why I was cancelling my order. I laughed and laughed and laughed and said with a tearful voice "you're joking, right?" He wasn't.

Prince's camp is probabbly alot more apprehensive about messing with this site because of the domain name, as well as its ranking in the search engines for the keyword "Prince".

And besides, at the end of the day, when he really wants to see what his listeners think of his latest endeavors, this is where he would find the most honest remarks. The NPGMC forums are a joke, you give some fams an opportunity to kiss ass and they will pounce on it.
