Why does prince use the color purple

i was thinking about it and i asked myself " why the color purple?" things that crossed my mind were

purple = red+blue

red symbolizes love a lot of the time, and blue can represent sadness. so sadness and love, somewhere inbetween?

blue reminds me of the sky, where heaven is located red, the color of the devil. maybe he is somewhere between heaven and hell??

just some thoughts, anyone else have any insight??

Well, really the colour purple signifies royalty and majesty!! So with his name being PRINCE - go figure!!!!

But then, on the other hand, purple also signifies gay pride!!!

Im sure I read some where that Prince wanted to create something as great as the Hendrix 's Purple Haze, so wanted to sing about something purple and decided on rain.

yea i thought about it later and i rembered in those old school big ass boxes of crayola crayons, u always had royal purple, and princeis, well prince so the royalty thing makes sense. Maybe it is from the vikings, but i felt i had to go deeper cuz well some of the lyrics prince signs are pretty deep, so i thought purple had to be deep too. i gues its open to interpretation.

Why purple? Green was taken.

Research shows that creative people tend to like the color Purple a lot. Purple happens to be my favorite color, along with Black... I happen to be an artist.
