I wonder which marketing idiot decided it was not a big deal to NOT scan in the original fonts for use and use a generic font that I have on my computer! That SOTT font (all three of them, I think the album has three fonts) is completely part of the whole concept. Just like Peach and Black.

I used to work in the DVD biz. Just so people know (and it's already been stated) Alliance is a legit distributor. In Canada, they've released some very good versions - legitimate versions - of Disney/Buena Vista product, long before they were available here, including a SE of Pulp Fiction among others. They've released stuff in Canada (which is also Region 1), that got no press here, so it's really no shock that you've not heard a lot about it. | |

Fonts are often copyrightable - you (officially) have to pay the designer/owner if you use them (even if you recreated them yourself - it's the design that's owned), otherwise you could leave yourself open to getting sued. I would have thought that they could have spent a few bucks buying the use of the original fonts, but perhaps they couldn't find the original creator (perhaps it was even commissioned and owned by Prince himself) and just went for an easier option. Fans have created their own version, but that doesn't make it offially available... | |

Prince has been using the fonts in new merchandise sold at the Musicology Tour... I remember t-shirts with that font.

logically, for you to change the font on a picture, u need to have the original picture without any font on it, rite? granted, the original vhs release has the title touching slightly onto Prince. think about it. wps | |

You can remove the letters individually from the actual picture then just add new text over it. BTW, the original picture is floating around with NO TEXT on it. I'd also like to add that SOTT has a Feb release date on DVD in Australia through...anyone wanna guess??? Universal!! So maybe a US R1 version is on the way?

I've seen her name on loads of Warner records from the late 80s. I wonder if she sold the fonts' copyrights to Warner and then Warner allowed MCA to lease it for their original VHS packaging? If Prince has been using the font on recent merchandise, somebody at Paisley Park probably downloaded the fake SOTT font from Kazaa or something. | |

It's Margo Chase and she has a website: http://www.margochase.com I'm amazed at all the instantly notable fonts and logos she's created. Take a look at her portfolio. She's a genius. No mention of Prince on her site though. Maybe she didn't get paid!  | |

exactly, fool! We're dealing with a movie/concert that prince designed and directed (so what if the slate says Albert Magnoli in the outtakes, Prince is always in control... right? hmmmm) so i doubt the font was a real obstacle since they used the artwork!
