Well if you are familar with Okayplayer .com and Questlove you'll understand that he posts these stream on conscieness kind of threads that are a bit cryptic. Like one time he was posting about why D'angelo wasnt on the break you off single and it took me about 5 reads to really get it.

Why can't people just post reports in straightforward english?

Obviously this report was created using Microsoft's PrinceMustThinkI'mGreatUsingThisSadFamCrappyLanguage software.

Most Prince fans are now approaching middle-age, if we're not there already. We've grown out Prince's stoopid, pretentious language (as Prince has himself) and we're not wanting to see dopey twonks trying desperately to get Prince on i their side by posting show reports in a long-dated style that they're hoping Prince will read and decide that they're the best fan that he's ever had..

Can we all grow up now and speak in proper english?

Or am I being simple and this is a report of something that happened in the 1980s and the person reporting it still hasn't moved away from that period?

i think you're being simple and way-offbase, this wasnt even taken from a prince fansite.

it was easy enough to understand if you followed his references and most people at the forumn were this was originally posted knew where he was coming from. Again, this wasnt even meant for this forumn or written in that old "prince-speak", but someone took upon themselves to post it here since they thought it would be cool to share.

the best parties and shindigs, as well as the testimonials from such, are the ones that are untold.

hold up, this cat shares his experience of playing with his idols and feeling a sense of approval and you dismiss it as "et gossip junk"? wow.....

i'm not saying that the testimonial itself is gossip--the way that all the testimonials from these parties have been presented so far do run along the same line as i had mentioned above...y'know, the whole so-and-so wore this, and this happened, and this is what they ate...that kinna stuff. the term "gossip" to me is a bit different in the context i used it in than the one that you may be thinking about. my terminology's a titch different than yours...it ain't that crucial.™

as for everybody pissing over dude's sentence structure and all...you also gotta remember that he had mentioned that it was, what, 6 in the morning when he got all that out? seems to me like a kind of "i'm worn out but i gotta type this before i sleep and end up waking up havin forgotten all about it!"-type affair.

same here. although i think it's more the way they're told. more description of what's actually being played and the vibe of the show would be preferable to the people filling up the reports with their personal "flavor".

That wasn't Prince-speak and if you couldn't understand it, then chances are it wasn't intended for you to read.

well, it'd be the same as when people post their paisley party reports--when they were still goin on i always had the tendency to tell folks more of what i did and what went down rather than just "oh, they played x, y & z"...but yeah, i see where you're gettin at. in reports like these there should be a nice balance between what went on and what you did amongst the melee, otherwise it's kinda wayward.

nod This is true

However, upon initial reading, it shouldn't be that hard for folks to decipher in the first place. The jist of it is that Quest was elated to play with his musical hero once again. But sure enough, some folks gotta come and attempt to shit all over Christopher Tracy's Parade. evillol

I just think it's great to see Prince creating an "insider" buzz and so openly sharing his God given talents. Prince is known for his legendary performances and late night jams. It's cool to know that even the "stars" are still awestruck by Prince. 3121 is a houseparty old-school style... you gotta love it!

Amen to that! Surely Prince fans aren't complaining about another artist's communication skills??? If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is! "Prince-speak" is the most cryptic and bassackwards form of communication in the entertainment business. I guess all I can say to Prince fans is "now you know what non-Prince fans feel like when they read something from Prince".

So it was intended for morons that can't speak English?
If so then I consider myself lucky it was not intended for me.

That said, I still stand by my wish that somebody that has a grasp of how to communicate will write a report of the party so "us folks that it's not intended for" can know what happened. rolleyes

These house parties don't impress me, no booze, no drugs. Prince probaly offers his guests crackers and water and preaches to them about the advatages of joining the Jehovah Witness religion while he forces them to listen to the whole TRC album.

stream of consciousness is one thing. that at least implies consciousness. the style in which questlove writes is more like stream of gibberish, as if coming out of heavy sedation after an operation.

Well, considering it was around 6am when he wrote this, he was probably feeling the combined effects of a Prince high and exhaustion. Brings back memories of the 2002 Celebration for me.
Anyway, why hate on the man for sharing his experience. Clearly it was a special night for him. That came through loud and clear.

If u don't get ?uestlove's Okplayer missives...I don't know what to say. He's the drummer for The Roots and has a website. He's been at it for years, and while I enjoy his way of writing, sometimes he is difficult to comprehend.

HOWEVER, THIS time, he really took me to where he was and how he was feeling that amazing night, very clearly! From this writing, the NPGMC post and general reports from various sources from that Post-Oscar event...sounds like history was made that night!

Now...the important thing...DID THE BROTHER RECORD/FILM IT?!?!?!

It's pretty easy 2 understand ?uestlove's report, 1st of all. Secondly, How can anyone have a problem with him. He's one of the tightest drummers out there, is down 2 earth, knows music, is from Philly, he's from one of the greatest hip-hop groups ever, and he loves Prince (and isn't afraid to express this).

U wanna 'translation'? Here's a slightly stripped down version:

so im like in the kitchen on my 5th cookie.
i mean the kitchen alone would make veruca salt
kick her pop in the chin so he can write her a check
just so she too could have a CHOCOLATE WATERFALL
(yes....a fountain dripping nothing but chocolate for you to dip
your stuff in fondue style)---

He's in Prince's kitchen, eating his 5th cookie. Prince has a fountain in the kitchen, which pours chocolate. U can hold your cookie under the chocolate, if U like 2 dip it.

i get a tap on the shoulder.....

"yo do the sound....."

Prince tells him 2 run the soundboard.

member in 89 when michael was getting his umpteenth achievment award from eddie murphy and mike asked ed to adjust the mic, and ed joked like "mike said 'fix that!' and i was like (without thinking) 'YES MICHAEL!!!!' like i worked for him"---

next thing i knew i was at the soundbooth---

well not for long----this was too much to take in....every A list celeb was at this house shindig--

the fun trend of the night tween my girl and i?

counting all the upn actresses with white boyfriends (last count: 6!)--

then it started:

housequake.

he said "get on drums"

There must have been an 'intro' 2 Housequake, and Prince told him 2 play.

i played modest like (turn left.....turn right...."who.....me?"---)

later for that "aww shucks..." ish.

i played.

Fahgeddaboud all the shy shit... I'm gonna rock these skins.

but i was communicating a language....

i did "tricky"/"irresistible"/"bacon skin"--- to the bone.

and sure enough.....

"GOT EM"---

morris gave me that "YES BROTHER!!!" look.

i mean i turned into morris day!

He rocked some classics, and Morris was diggin it. Morris played drums on "bacon skin" originally, so that's why he says he turned into Morris Day.

--i wasn't done...

mid "housequake" he made frank mccomb go into ltd's "back in love again"---

i did a lil clyde/jabo---but then...

During Housequake, they interjected 'back in love again', and ? played some classic James Brown grooves, ala Clyde Stubblefield.

i started "lady cab driving" it.....

Went into the groove for "Lady Cab Driver".

then he smiled.

Prince dug it.

great im on to something.....

then....stevie walks up....

damn....i been DYING to be ollie brown to stevie's 1970 stevie---

now was my chance.....hands were bleeding...but eff that ish....

He's been wanting 2 play some of Stevie's earlier stuff, which was played by Ollie Brown back then.

"i wish" starts

and i played that ish VERBATIM like the record.

Remember "ish" is "shit".

p even smiled at my exact hi hat breakdown on the bridge.

sheila and p just stood there and....

i cant describe the feeling.....it was like

approval.

i was too beside myself.

they started "superwoman/where were you"---and i couldnt take it.

this night was the best jam session i ever had in my life!

3121 forever!

its 6am yall i just got in.

-man.....

this is the best night EVER

Cool? U happy now?

Peace.

It's nothing more than pure unadulterated hate just for the sake of hating. Blame it on the slang, blame it on the "cryptic" nature of the post, blame it on the boogie... It's nothing but pure hate. ... and maybe a 'lil jealousy too.
