I just bought the DVD to flashdance and somebody told me how it was prince related. When Vanity walked off the set, apparently all the exotic looking actresses in hollywood tried out for the role inlcuding Jenifer Beal. I've always tried to image what the movie purple rain would look like staring it's original Starlet Vanity, but can u imagine if Jenifer Beal got the prt instead of Apollonia ? What was Jenifer Beal Anyways was she black ?

Firstly, it's Jennifer Beals with an 's.' Secondly, she's still hot and is currently playing one of the main characters on Showtime's 'the L word.'

Pardon me, but I was 5 when Purple Rain came out. So the most amazing part of the movie for me, was Apollonia's boobs! If misses Beals, has some jugs too, then I would've been alright with it.

Mmmm...Beals is one of those women that actually got sexier with age, but I can't imagine Purple Rain without Apollonia. Say what you will, but she was incredible (to look at) in that movie.

The lake Minnetonka scene wouldn't have been as impressive, that's for sure.

you do know that they used a male and female dance double for beals in Fleshdance?

I'm really glad Apollonia made it in the movie. She was perfect for the role. If you think about it her charecter seems to be very much like Mayte's demaner and alot of future Prince women. Seems that is the kinda girl Prince likes-very soft, feminine and let's him be the man.

As for the love scene.....


Who here thinks Jennifer Beals would let Prince do what he did to Appolonia in that sex scene?

You're referring to her 'areolas'. The outer ring around the nipple, that is often darker in color compared to the rest of the breast. Well...that's what made appls different. The lack of pigmentation around her nipples, actually make them look bigger, just due to contrast. Appl's couldve used some more booty though.

See vanity thought she was hurting Prince, but it really did work out for the better. I couldn’t imagine Purple rain without Apollonia either, she was perfect 4 the role regardless of what anybody says. and Prince owned the year of 1984. I remember it clearly. That’s what I be saying to people though a situation may look harsh at the time, sometimes u just gotta trust it’s 4 the better. I’m sure when Vanity walked off the set, he Panic but it all worked out in his favor. The Movie made him a Legend.

I heard that too...I still would have preferred the movie with Vanity. While she may not have had as much to show in the lake scene, her sexuality would have torn that movie apart. I think people who were avid Prince fans before the movie were really wanting to see the two of them together on screen, simply because we had envisioned them together as a result of the Vanity 6 album, RollingStone cover/story, other pics, etc., and we wanted to see them together "in the flesh." I was 14 when Purple Rain came out and I was not feeling Appollonia at all. She's a ditz. I mean, Vanity can be too, but Vanity would have ruled that entire movie. That intimate scene in his bedroom would have been on FIRE! Regardless of the size of V's ta-ta's.
