Song better live? Which ones??

I wanted to know which songs you like better live wether you heard it on a cd recorded live or actually heard it in his concert...which songs do you like better live? Personally I have heard Kiss and I liked it better live, Vicki Waiting, Baby Knows and thats all I can think of at the moment.

Snap

I liked the way he performed "Cream" on Arsenio better than the album, and am really digging the live version of "Paisley Park" that he's been playing since 2001. "Days of Wild," "The Ride," and many more... Really, I like most of his songs better when performed live -- there's nothing quite like being in the midst of the creation.

I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man (live 87) blows the album version away in my opinion.

Something in the water does not compute live and acoustic.
Very beautiful song, never realized before last years concert the heartbreak and despair in that song.
Reminded me of heartbreak I went thru in high school. That song could have been my anthem. cry

I don't think prince ever did kiss justice live. The cross has always been one of my favorite done live.

I saw the video SOTT before I got the album and I must say I was dissapointed.

The whole thing sounds better live than on the album. I guess that was to be

expected though!

He did it live at the Joe in 2004 musicology tour, acoustic, slow, with just his guitar and it was beautiful... not so angry, now just sad and despair. That is when I realized that the song was more a love song just to a faster tempo on the studio version

All of Dirty Mind. On CD it's not very appealing to me, but watching the videos and looking at the pictures, the live experience seemed infinitely better.

are you serious about this ... ??
That slick version of Purple Rain ... it's really disgusting!
It's ... damned awfull!

The best version is the full version of the released one: August 3rd 1983 First Avenue.
All the versions played during the Purple Rain Tour are pretty good, and the versions played during the Parade Tour are OK.
But after than ... Just fuckin’ edits or slick and awfull

Nah, all the 1's U just pointed out all sound the same, the one from rave is an actal change, this version is so much deeper than the rest, his voice is beautiful and the guitar at start, middle and end is just mind blowing, U cant knock it!

I can only think of 2 songs that were NOT better live ...

Sometimes it Snows in April and How Come You Don't Call Me

Live versions normally add something extra, which is why it was tragic that we didn't get an 'official' live album until a couple of years ago.

guess our preferences just differ a lot ... most changes aren't for the better anyway. For a lot of songs the earlier demos beat the released versionc too.
I'll always prefer the full version (13 somewhat minutes) of the released version. And I love the Syracuse version too!

I agree, as I prefer the demo version of "something in the water" I guess its just different strokes for different folks!
Tho i haven't heard the unreleased version of PR.

One song that sounds like it was meant to be live is "Now." I love the live version on The Beautiful Experience, but I don't really get that pumped up from the studio version on The Gold Experience.

And I agree with Life o' the Party. The live version is kickin'.
