Live8-Why did he not play?

Did anyone else watch Live8 and think Prince would have blown all the other 'performers' out of the water! Its so frustrating watching these events knowing that the man is miles better than the rest. Could he not have turned up ripped up the set and let the whole world know (as we all do as Org's) that he is the real deal. I dont understand why he refuses to play ball, any ideas?

not to come across as a naive optimist, but that wasn't exactly the point of live8.

Oh ye thats right I forgot its really about multimillionaires giving a shit and giving up their free time for the cause, and absolutely nothing to do with exposure and sales of ones back catalogue, or am I just being a naive pessimist?

There were multiple threads saying he was going to play. I didn't think he would.
I enjoyed some of the live acts, but the whole thing seemed kind of silly. MTV grandstanding how active they are for putting this thing together. MTV also chopped the acts up. There was no real flow to the whole thing.
If Prince had played and they cut away so I hear what a VJ thought I would have been bull shit.

I have been a Prince fan since the early eighties and I was not surprised he did not play at Live 8. It seems to me that in the great scheme of things Prince feels that there are more important things in his life than using his time on a global concert.

Questions to ask !

How important is it to the 50000 people dying in Africa everyday ?

How important is it to the child who is waiting for his dinner at night when all his mother is doing is cooking a stone in pot a water to make it look that they have food and waiting for that child to go to sleep hungry ?

How important is it to the family who uses the leather off an old chair bolied in water as soup for their only meal of the day ??

Ask the 200000 at Hyde Park How important it is ?

I was there it was the mose emotional and greatest moment in my life so far at the age of 37 ?

I feel that a weekend of someones time to support this cause is nothing in the great scheme of things.

WHERE WERE YOU ! WHY WERE YOU NOT THERE !

i might be wrong but according to his religion i think he's supposed to refrain from participating in politcal activities. would live8 would fall into that category?

mmmmm....it's more or less a charity event, not too much on the political side of things.

as for p not showing up: good on 'im. he didn't have to, nor was he obligated to. what would be the point in doing so? it's best to do charitable works outta the public eye, imo.

An interesting point but what about Live Aid back in 85? I get the feeling that somehow the decision not to do both is connected, I just wonder what it is that stops him from wanting to become 'world wide A list' all over again, I mean his record sales would get a major boost and we as Prince fans could gloat to all the non believers TOLD U SO MUTHERS!!!!

The sight of Madonna trying to sing (no lip syncs, she really should have!!) was gauling because I knew what Prince could have brought to the event. Oh Prince why oh why, dont u wanna share your gift to the biggest audience possible?

cuz it wasn't about that. it wasn't about musicianship. it wasn't about who can sing better than who. it wasn't about blowing folks outta the water, being able to gloat, album sales etc..etc...thats not why the even was organized. that may be why some signed on to do it. but wasn't its purpose
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

So are u saying that these are the reasons that u believe Prince did not do it or are u just making a statement about the real reason behind Live8, because if u actually read the thread I'm after peoples thoughts on why he did not play.

Nobody here knows why Prince didn't play, it could be many different reasons but no one knows for sure.

Go find Prince and ask him

I haven´t been a Prince fan for a long time, so maybe that will be a stupid question, but has Prince ever done any charity or something like that?
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
