S.S.T (the final verdict!!)

i want to get an idea of wht people "on the whole" think of S.S.T

it would be great if everyone could write a small review of the song from thier point of view.

(for example, my review)

In my opinion, SST is the best song Prince has made in a long time! i love the mixture of soul/pop & funk. And it sounds so fresh!! love it!

I love it. The music, the lyrics, everything. And I love the "combination" of Prince and Sade (OK Sade only appears as a name in the lyrics but still) because they're my favourite musicians ever. woot!

Not to mention I was starving for some new Prince music. biggrin

I like it a lot. As I said before, this type of song appealed to
me immediately when he began with them. The first one to have an
official release, I think, was "Pearls B4 the Swine".

Obviously, "The Truth" album and the "One Nite Alone" material
are similar, but tracks like "SST", "Pearls Before The Swine",
"She Loves Me 4 Me" and "Reflection" combine the vibes of those
2 albums very well

Not júst piano and not júst guitar but nice light and breezy
arrangements with cool relaxed melodies and some fun playing

In short, I think it's another song to add to the list that I've
mentioned above. The cool addition to "S.S.T." is that it's got
that lead out funk groove going on that segues into "BNO" and I
am not quite sure yet wether that adds to the song itself or not

I like it, don't get me wrong, but I also like stand alone songs
that don't segue in and out of one another.

Isten, cut to the chase smile Ok, it's a very cool song that I'm
sure I will enjoy for a long time to come. Better than a lot of
tracks on Musicology, that's for damn sure.

I like it! The singing is good, but the music is better and its great how it changes near the end.

It's solid; nothing spectacular at all whatsoever.

The lyrics are at least meaningful, and it's very listenable, but there's nothing urgent or distinct about it.

Something about his vocals on this one bugs me, but I can't quite figure out what or why that is. Overall, I don't particularly like the track.

In my opinion, SST is forgettable junk, neither funky or adventurous lyrically or musically. It, in fact, sounds cheesy, and I won't listen to it without headphones.

I have favourite albums:
Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, The Black Album/LS, SOTT, TGE, Exodus, Come. I like almost everything except his commercial stuff (D&P, Emancipation, and Musicology) - I'm finding his current music very unadventurous, with next to no funk, and nothing that will last over 6 months imho.

It shows a very promising flavour the quaility of his new stuff post Musicology, seems like he plans to stay on a commercial streak for a another album, if so that is VERY good news. SST is a great track, and it makes me hopeful of his next album release.

Great music, but it's obvious he didn't spend much time on the lyrics. It lacks the imagery of other similarly cryptic Prince songs. However, I agree it bodes well for the new album, considering he wrote, arranged and performed SST and BNO in so little time.
