OFFICIAL PRINCE HIP REPLACEMENT THREAD

Turns out the man has a "major health crisis" after all...
According to the news this morning, P is facing major hip surgery, but is reluctant to have it because of his JW status. They're not allowed to have blood transfusions. My wife asked if they could use his blood, which is what most people do, but my guess is that's technically the same thing. My understanding is once the blood leaves the body, it is considered "dead blood" and therefore should not be put back into a live body. As a result, the newscaster stated that he is "on the fence of whether to have the surgery or not." For the time being, he is on pain medication to deal with it.
During the news segmanet, they were showing a clip, i presume from the Musicology show. There was no sound, but P was strutting back and forth across the catwalk portion of the stage, smiling and singing, looking as if he felt just fine bodily. His mannerisms gave no indication of pain.

[Hey all, Anx here. If you're gonna post about Prince's hip replacement woes, do it here. All your news, rumors, opinions, and all of your amazingly funny hip jokes go right here. Get it outcha system, baby. If you start a new thread, it *WILL* get locked, mmkay? Thank ya.]

I saw it reported in The Sun newspaper in Britain this morning. It's hardly the best source for this type of news but according to them, 'A source close to the 5ft 3in singer said: "He's battered his body so much his joints, especially his hips, are causing a lot of discomfort."'

They also mentioned he's releasing a single to raise money for New Orleans, so they definately have something right.
RIP sad

Hell, if it gets painful enough, he'll forget about that nonsense and have the surgery. Ain't nothing worse than pain. If he chooses to be a fool and live with the pain, then I don't feel sorry for him.

The ORIGINAL source of this story is the National Enquirer so take it with a grain of salt. All your other so called media sources such as WB media channel 11 news are using the enquirer as a source which should tell you something.

I believe he has sore hips but I don't believe he needs a transplant because I have known people who needed transplants and they could hardly get around and Prince appears to still be very spry and mobile.

I personally believe the Enquirer read CJ's column and ran with it and made up some juicier details.

They should probably tell you they are reading the enquirer when they do their "entertainement segment". Celebrity gossip is almost never true.

Me too, I think NPGMC should issue an offical statement and set the record straight. I really can't stand these enquirer type papers. They should be illegal.

instead of replacing his hip they should replace his brain!
i have a funny feeling that they took the Purple Rain Prince and stored his brain in a jar for scientific study.Return the Purple Rain Brain back into Prince's head and give the other brain back to Larry.
Larry will need that brain for his next creation.

Prince, the hip op star

At A mere 5ft 3in, Prince has always relied on the highest of heels to give him a lift.

But his penchant for platforms could have stacked the odds against him. At 47, he has been told he needs a hip replacement.

The singer believes years of strutting on stage (and energetic dance routines) have taken a toll on his joints.
"He used to wear high-heeled boots every day and doctors told him that may have contributed to his condition," a source told U.S. magazine the National Enquirer.

"Over the years he has battered his body so much that his joints, especially his hips, are causing him a lot of discomfort."

The singer has been told that only a full hip replacement will alleviate the pain and ensure he can keep dancing.

"Over time his condition will get worse and he'll have to have the surgery," another source told the magazine. "He's causing more damage by continuing to walk."

Prince, a Jehovah's Witness, is thought to be against having surgery because the religion does not allow blood transfusions.

He has been prescribed antiinflammatory drugs to help him cope with the condition.

He and his wife Manuela married in a Jehovah's Witness ceremony in Hawaii on New Year's Eve 2001. A year later, they were formally baptised into their faith in a private ceremony in Minnesota.

Prince's career spans 30 years and includes the hit albums Purple Rain, Diamonds and Pearls and Musicology.

In 2000, he adopted a symbol as his name and insisted on being referred to as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince in a bizarre act of rebellion against his record company.

As a Jehovah's Witness he has joined the faith's recruiting ranks, knocking on doors to spread the word.

In a recent TV interview in the U.S. he refused to answer any questions not about the faith.

"Jesus is more important than anything," he declared. "If we can focus on that, all of us, this chaos will cease."

this isnt true...my 70 year old grandmother who was low on blood and had to have dialysis four times a week recieved two hip replacements without any blood..the first one was a-okay....no problems at all..the second one was a bit different because she formed an infection....but that was the result of bedsoars and her old age..

prince is young.....a friend of mine who is younger then prince recently had both his hips replaced (three months apart) and each time he was up and running within weeks....and he is ummm..no where near the shape of prince.. lol

so, if prince decides to have the surgery or not its all on him...not his religion...so folks, lets not turn this into another religion discussion please...

Good call. thumbs up!

And who have we heard it from since then? The Sun and the Daily Mail.

I think it's likely NPGMC might post something to combat these rumours if they continue to persist.

MrsJimmyFallon

my mother worked for 15+ years in the orthopedic department of a clinic/hospital for a number of different orthopedic surgeons. i asked her last night about the hip replacement surgery and she told me that such a surgery would definitely alleviate the pain caused by the hip bone and joint rubbing on each other but that, after the surgery, there would be certain restrictions the patient would be HIGHLY advised by his/her doctor to follow, so as not to cause further injury or stress to that [weakened] surgery site and to avoid more problems. such as, Prince would most probably be advised NOT to wear the high heels AT ALL anymore; be told not to do certain exercises, movements or certain body positions (even crossing your legs might be a no-no for a particular patient).

lastly, just because Prince can still "get around" without visible pain doesn't mean anything in terms of whether or not he's *really* in pain, or whether or not a hip replacement surgery is deemed a necessity (sooner or later) by his doctor. if Prince has irreversible damage at this point to his hip/s, enough so that its causing him pain, it's NOT going to just 'get better' or go away....and therefore him being told by his physician that a hip replacement is the only option that would alleviate his pain is certainly not some far-out, outrageous concept.

maybe Prince's doctor told him he could slide for a couple more years without having the surgery if he doesn't mind taking painkillers and anti-inflammatories (but those come with their OWN set of potential problems to consider, too) and avoids certain activities and stresses to his joints (such as dancing and wearing the high heels), but a person doesn't have to be hobbling around or so disables they're in a wheelchair for a joint replacement surgery to be declared (by their doctor) as a procedure that's going to be need to be done -- sooner or later.
