Are you ever NOT into Prince?

As I long time fan, since about '83, there have been many, many long stretches of time when I haven't listened to any Prince.

Then, after a long period of time, I get back into something of his and then listen more, and more.

Etc.

Etc.

Over the years.

Howabout' yourselves? Ever have long periods of time when you don't listen to any Prince?

Not really because there is sooooo much music to choose from. Sometimes I might want to listen to funk jams like Sexy Dancer, Lady Cab Driver and Head. Other times I might feel the need to listen to rockers like Bambi,Endorphinmachine or Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad?. Between studio albums, live concerts and side projects, Prince's music always somehow finds a place in my ears.

What prompted you to play it again and what did you play?

I was looking for some (bootleg) songs my wife never heard and then I realized how much great music I had which I had completely forgotten about.

I actually went about 8 years before I got back into him following the release of Musicology. since then I've been filling in the gaps and discovering all the great music I missed out on.

i have to say i've really enjoyed getting back into his music. Things like Emancipation, which I didn't like at all when it came out, I now really like.

I think there was a lot of confusion and a surfeit of material in the late 90's which just lost me for a while, but since then i've picked up the thread again.

what an incredible genius!
I'm testing postive 4 the funk

It's always great hearing people talk about rediscovering Prince. Proves that great music can not be denied. I've not had a period where I wasn't into Prince but I had a period where I couldn't listen to Prince music or secular music for that matter because of my Mom. Once I left her house and I heard his music again, I became an even bigger fan.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Only when I was with a non-fan who dominated my Sex life. But really the years from 1999-2001 wasn't much going Concertwise. Never again will I be like that again that I was Out of the Scene with Friends and Prince. I have been back since 2002 and will Never Leave again. I am a DEDICATED PRINCE FUNKSTER into it for the LONG Haul. The Man is a SIGNIFICANT Person who Matters to the Highest Power. cool And it will always B so. He rules!!!! biggrin

I go through 1-2 week phases of other stuff.... it's healthy to listen to other stuff to put a perspective on things.

Pagey

85 after AWTIAD came out...I went into Prince overload and HATED it when it came out. Now its one of my faves, but at the time I thought the dude totally lost it AND I was just plain sick of the guy.

88 during the whole Lovesexy era...LOVED (and still do) SOTT and thought Lovesexy sucked big time and was a total disappointment when it came out. Lovesexy took me years to get into.

92 after the symbol album...I hated it so much I stopped listening to him until about 94/95 when I first heard Gold Experience tracks. I was so outta touch with his stuff that I didn't know the Hits/B-Sides, Come, and The Black ALbum were released.

...and now...Waiting for something new...but I am listening other stuff (Genesis, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, and The Who at the moment) much more than any Prince stuff.

From time to time I take a break and during those periods I'm heavily into Rock or Rap and then after I finish those for awhile every now and then i'll listen to a lil' country but by time I rotate through those i'll usually wind up back at Prince and then incorporating those others along with maybe some oldies into the periods where i'm pretty heavily into him again.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.
