Prince promised alot more music(in interviews from 96-99)

I was reading alot of old Prince interviews and he mentioned releasing alot of material through NPGMC.

He said;

In 1999 he was releasing a definitive live album.

He was going to release some music he did with Mavis Staples.

He also said he could release 5-7 FULL length albums a year if there was a market for it.

The amount of releases has been emmensely dissapointing since he has thousands of songs in the vault.

In 1999 he was releasing a definitive live album.

and a few years later, he did. i don't know about "definitive" - that's a matter of opinion - but he released a three-disc live box set.

He was going to release some music he did with Mavis Staples.

Well, he says a lot of things...it could still happen, or he could have just grown disinterested with the project.

He also said he could release 5-7 FULL length albums a year if there was a market for it.

Is there a market for it?

It also might have to do with the bitchin that went on because of the live cds when crybaby fans expected studio cds.

i don't remember the bitchin over that at all. everyone seemed pretty satisfied, and for once NPGMC shipped out most all of the box sets fairly promptly. and a few weeks after, we even got the CNOTE/XPECTATION downloads, ostensibly to make up for the argument that the 2002 NPGMC didn't deliver the number of albums promised for that year (though they never came out and claimed that to be the reason for the downloads).

The only crybabys were the few factions from the net(AMP/Org). We are basically roughly, lets say, a group of 500 altogether (vocal ones). It would be dumb to base his strategies around only us (which he has done in the past though).

When has Prince based his strategy around 500 vocal people?

the frustrating thing is, though, that prince always seems to react to the complaints and bellyaching, but he never really seems to react to the suggestions and questions that fans have unless they're being indignant and rude. for all the complaining about "naysayers", it seems like he's fed the fire on more than a couple of occasions.

Exactly. With poor results. I mean Rave was a blatant attempt to please the belly-achers ( website reported return to Linn_drum sound after AMP and P-Org discussed it at length for years as an example).

Even the live ONA was an attempt to appease us net fans who disucssed at length why no live material ever surfaced.

However, you mentioned you don't remember complaints about that release, I sure do. Many complained about the set list, focus on hits, the production (erased audience reverb) and more.

It seems as you said that Prince can't win when he tries to appease. I think what he doesn't get is that when they complain or see things where his focus would be kind of cool, he flubs it by tweaking things.

I feel that Mani was very instrumental to goading Prince into attempting to hear this vocal minoroty becasue she knew it made sense and also it made Prince a little more aware of just what his audience wold respond to albeit done properly and with inspiration and not false attempts/duty.

In what way were 'Crystal Ball' strategically based on noise from 500 people?

So no proof of this.

Just your feelings based on correlation of things said on message boards and Prince's subsequent output.

On AMP many talked about many booted songs and a wish for release. And since many were distributed he said "aha..I'll do my own and give them sort of what they want. He said some of this in some magazine or was quoted in ICE Magazine as saying this.

It isn't exactly rocket science or a out there far-fetched idea.

Boy Lange you wont give me a break ever lol.

Yes there is proof. Many things said on AMP showed up as rebuttals on his website version 1999-2000 in the comments section. There was even a blatant mockery of an Englishman named Nigel Swann from AMP on one of the audio shows, mocking (with English accent) what he would comklain about in the newsgroup.

Even talk about his wardrobe needing to be changed hopefully next time to a more dingified look so it didn't detract from the music and voila'. Suits and suave style for the TRC tour and beyond.

He did/does read other sites about him.

Hell,he created his own forum site because of AMP, Org, Princefams and the like. He attmepted to quell sites by him being head of "The Collective" so he ended up making his own forums. Come on now this isn't cockamamy off the head ideas. Some may not say anything here, but ask around and many will corroborate(sp?) what I'm stating.

It's the amount he thought he could do back then. I take to mean just an estimate. Besides, he changes his mind often. No hurt feelings here.

I was on both the org and alt.music.prince during this period.

This is the first time I've ever heard it suggested that part of an ahdio show was a reference to Nigel!

he was probably just trying to piss Warner off.

I think he said he was going to build a hospital too.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!
