Bonni Boyer Vs. Rosie Gaines?

Rosie Gaines' vocals in I Rock Therefore I Am are the highlight of the song for me (although Scrap D's rap provides fierce competition lol).

She is also one of the few saving graces on the Diamonds & Pearls album.

But Bonni's vocals at the end of The Line, with the church organ... "precious lord, take my hand..." - probably my favourite ten seconds of any Prince song, period.

I'm not sure who I'd pick but I miss the big black divas in Prince's music...

SenseOfDoubt

Is it Bonnie who appears on the Sign'O' The Times movie?... on the keys? How long did she stay with him?

Boni died in 1996 of a stroke.
She was only 38.. very tragic.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I prefer Boni.

She fit Prince more. (liked their chemistry on the Sign O' the Times movie)

I don't care that much for Rosie. I mean should could sing, but her sound never really fit the Prince music to me. I always just wished he'd sung Rosie's parts.

I might have liked RG separate from Prince but not with him.

I beg to differ. She just shines (almost OUT-shines) with Prince on Into The Light and I Will.

I liked Bonnie better, Rosie tended to over power prince with her vocals.

I've just been listening to The Line lots lately and also the Diamonds & Pearls album... and one of the highlights on both of these are Bonni and Rosie.

I do agree that Rosie had a tendency to over-power... and even out-shine in places.
