Prince = inconsistent?

Not that I mind because I really like the new Black Sweat single, however I found it strange that he's going back to more electronic music. Last year he was still preaching 'real music by real musicians' and practically dissing the people that used computers and all. And in his new video we see a girl behind a turntable when I heard through the grapevine that we had to pick between a turntable or a band. I really hope he'll continue to make both sorts of music but he shouldn't make statements like that anymore imo.
(Little Richard enters the stage)
Homer: Purple Rain!!
Little Richard: Shut up!
Homer (to Marge): Oh my God, Michael Jackson just told me to shut up!

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Eletronic music IS REAL MUSIC, and CAN BE MADE by real musicans. And that IS THE case. Nothing inconsistent about that. Is just people´s weak perception about what is real music.

it's Prince's so-called "inconsistence" that makes him the genius...he bends genres with an uncanny easyness!

I second that. It's when U rely on a computer for tonation and arpeggios and scales and stuff. Also NOT KNOWING HOW TO CRAFT A "SONG" would keep U out of that league. Just because theres sounds and the sounds last about 3-4 min's...doesn't mean that it's a song.

I believe Prince's point was made towards those who rely solely on computers to craft songs instead of using the computers as a tool in addition to their own imagination. He could never diss computers/electronics completely, because he's used them so much himself.

As long as he doesn't develop a fondness for sex with the 13 and under set, I'm cool. lol

Prince always contradicts himself, that's part of the Prince act since the beginning. He likes the split action/personality/genre thing.

Yeah, real music is to do with something else. A more indefinable quality.

You can make great music banging two pieces of wood together.

Musical instruments have become more sophisticated over time but it's how you use them that counts.

Music is more about being creative and it has less to do with the instrument and more about the person playing it.

I think this statement says alot about Princes own mindset towards music.

It's like he has become a snob about his OWN music.

Look at "Dirty Mind", "Controversy" and "1999". Great albums that sounds very electronic. Which goes to show Prince must have really used his imagination to create these albums.

I have tryed to make some computer music. It isn't easy. It is a long process.

I believe what he was trying to say witht he statement that real music is made by real musicians is that pop culture can get a prety face and give them voice lessons, they can give them songs to sing and teach them to dance like monkeys or pose with instrements, however this doesn't make those types musicians, it makes them pawns.

Real musicians make music not for money, popularity or fame. Real musicians make music because their heart has the beat and their mind has the rythem. Real musicans hear the lyrics and burn to speak those words.

That is what prince ment by "real musicians make real music".
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

i like your explanation. he has this way of being 'cryptic' kinda gets in the way sometimes. he did sound a teensy bit conceited with that remark back when

He should never change his sound like Hootie and the Blowfish, Bush, or The Wallflowers. That really helped with their longevity.....
