This thread should only be used for discussion of the song:

Do you like it?

Love it?

Hate it?

In the middle?

Seems someone has removed all the comments made about Fury. It's a shame you haven't done that for BL&B, this tune really did not deserve a thread. lol

"Fury" is such an obvious single. After "SNL" there probably was even some discussion at Universal about the feasibility of rush-releasing the song in place of "BS." At this stage that wasn't really possible, but I'll bet the idea was floated around.

Two questions: Do you think "Fury" is automatically the next single? If it is, how much will the lag time between the "SNL" buzz and the release date hurt its commercial prospects?

Peace, David

As cool a song as it is (assuming the album version isn't too different from the SNL performance) Fury doesn't sound like an a-side single at all to me. A Hendrix-ian funk/rock song doesn't seem like it'd do much on Top 40 nowadays. Maybe the rock charts, but would Universal want to aim a Prince single at the Rock charts? Could be a cool b-side though.

Anyway, they'll be repeating the SNL show on 3/25, so it'll have another shot at wowing folks.

For the same reasons that Universaluv quotes three posts above, I would have to disagree with you.

However, Fury would most definitely be a good B-Side!

You can't put Prince into a "format". When he's at his best he transcends formats, he's in the "Prince" format. Nobody knew what format When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy or Kiss where in, they just played the songs. Black Sweat and Fury are that good and could have the same success and they're both A-Side songs to me, even though Black Sweat certainly has the energy of his old B-Sides it's so good it works as an A-Side to me.

Well Fury (which i think is actually called 'a woman scorned') certainly created a huge buzz. Never mind about BS, which is also a cool song, but Universal would be silly not to capitalize on the buzz fury created, and release a single asap.

btw, there's good reason to believe that a video clip for fury has already been shot, so i think it's due to be released as the next single.

It would be really refreshing to see Prince release this song. It seems ages since Prince released a more rocky sounding song. Well I suppose Cinammon Girl was quite rocky, but it kind of got buried.

Personally, I think when you have a good song with a bit of buzz, you just release it and it will find it's own place in the charts.

That's what i was thinking..

But this is P we're talking about, so whatever seems like a sensible or natural thing to do is now dependent on P's way of reasoning.. and those things don't nescessarily resonate...

Which is why we all like P.. lol.. i guess

somebody explain to me why it is so important to discuss marketing and how well we hope a song does on the charts? why is that so important? I just want to hear the album and I hope I dig the tunes. I wish him much success but if the album flops that has nothing to do with my opinion and how my ears hear the album. look at all the great albums that didn't do all that great in their initial run that are now considered classics.

Its important because Prince´s mind changes to crazy directions when he has smash hits. I think that if Prince eventually put out a single that comes to be a worldwide hit, his head will naturally foward to a more progressive or experimental sound.

Seems like J7 is the person to ask. He's the one who posted the scoop as to what Prince would be playing hours before "SNL" even aired. While the rest of us were expecting "BS" and one of either "TAC" or "BL&B," J7 revealed that a song called "Fury" would be paired with "BL&B" on the show.

He must have had some kind of inside connection to get that info, so I'm gonna go with it until I officially hear otherwise.

J7, you around buddy? Let's hear what you got to say about this.

Peace, David

Don't be sure about that, there are a LOT of people who r utterly sick to death of all the tired-ass, synthetic, b-grade bullshit hiphop/funk that is polluting the airwaves. He rocks as good as any, why not aim a prince single at the rock charts (the biggest success he EVER had was an album and singles aimed at the rock charts!! Doesn't it seem completely obvious!?! Why pander to the r&b charts, he did that with little to no success in 99 with the RAVE album.

LOL,

A-side single? This isn't the 80s any more. Its all about content and you need to move on and in. "Fury" is the answer to "Lets go Crazy."

Remember the chart to "Erotic City" or "She's Always in My Hair".

So even the 80s B-sides didn't make sense. But, thankfully 2000 has moved on. The masses want quality and they were served. Check the net for the response "Fury" has invoked.
