He sounded great as usaul, but no one should say he never milked the hits, PR and Let's Go Crazy, it's obvious he's trying to make a euro comeback by playing these.

Ooooh man, in the words of Miles Davis - "Prince is a motherfucker".

Prince is so far beyond what the UK scene is about....I can only guess being there must have felt like witnessing a tornado. The man is a God.
It just got me thinking about the time Prince sold out 22 nights at Wembley Arena. He could have the UK again if he really wanted to.

I got shivers hearing Wendy play the opening chord to Purple Rain again.

Tight performance, that one! One minor complaint, though... what was up with his guitar sound? Didn't like that, especially on 'Fury' (the SNL version of that one reigns supreme).
But why bitch? It's all good!

I got really emotional when I watched this, not because it was such a great performance, but because I kept thinking it must have been around 20 years since Prince, Wendy and Lisa had played Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy on stage togehter. It really did take me back to when I first started being a Prince fan all those years ago.

As for the Brits itself, I thought the Gorillaz "performance" was superb too! The kids doing soul dance moves was so great.

By the way, I've never quite got Chris Evans' Prince thoughts - I know he was really pissed when P didn't turn up for the Radio 1 show years back - did he ever get over it? I wasn't too sure about his intro, was it "cool" or "bored"?

He played on Chris Evans TFI Friday show, so I guess they got over that disagreement.

Thought I heard Evans say "so many drummers, so little time." (Uttered after the Lemar backstage interview.)

Very pleased to se Wendy on guitar - she may not be the monster player that Mike Scott is, but she understands Prince better than anyone.

Mike Scott really over rated he dont play a mean rock guitar...like wendy or miko.

also ure in 2 minds about Chris Evans it wasnt cool at all...he is still pissed over a number of things ...Princes demands on tfi friday...the radio 1 thang etc...he was being a c*** and disrespectful!

I think Chris Evans had a terrible night presenting overall but what I think he was actually trying to do was to say : 'Shit with this next act I don't even need to give you an introduction. It's all in the name: It's Prince.'

A couple of things I noticed with this performance:

1. Prince was really emotional. He actually spontaneously kissed one of the backup singers on the cheek during Purple Rain. Kinda reminded me of Purple Rain the movie when he surprised Wendy with a kiss on the cheek and she turned away confused. Anyway I think he was over the moon to be playing with Wendy, Lisa and Sheila and it spilled out all over him and the performance. I also think his performance was a little less controlled than his assured SNL gig becuase of it...he literally was on cloud nine and he couldnt quite contain himself.

2. The confetti did come down. I remember Wendy once said Prince had suggested a reunion with the Revolution on VH1 with streamers coming down from the ceiling and she disagreed and suggested a toned down performance with acoustic guitars. They didn't talk about it again. Well, we kinda got a bit of both with this performance as the first half was low key and in the second stuff started raining from the ceiling. Question is...are Wendy and Lisa in the new band or was this just a one off? Were they recording with him in a London Studio?

3.The Flaming Lips band member was really chuffed to have met Prince!

4. KT Tunstall likes singing along to the singalong part of Purple Rain

5. Kaiser Chiefs are derivative punk...The Clash, The Who, The Jam, The Kinks, the Sex Pistols etc were there first and better.

6. Gorillaz rocked!

Oh Buttox my friend there are those that will say that as he said 'Prince' it was outta respect, hushed solemn, no hype ...but I dont think it was..there was.no remark after the performance, no excitement...Evans is the epitome of all i wrote above regarding lethargy and sum one treading water...and its a shame because like Johnny Vaughn he used 2 be really good.

Saw the video of the Brits. Good performance. A few thoughts:

A. Te Amo Corzon sounded no different than the studio version except maybe the guitar solo was played at a different point of the song. No better, no worse.

B. Fury was better on SNL. I love Sheila but the timbales and cow bells add nothing to the song.

C. W&L added nothing to the mix to make the songs sound any different than if Mike Scott and Renato Nato were there. And Prince didn't act any different because they were on the stage. Prince was being Prince on a good night.

D. The new drummer seems to be able to hold her own.

E. I liked Sheila's new hair style.

Wow what a perfromance...just watched the whole thing. I know people in that audience had to be watchiing that thing and thinking Ok you can't be serious? (Madonna and others)

The guy has no peers...none. He is now peerless

No doubt the perfromance wasn't as smooth that wasn't his band up there but still it was great. Good seeing Sheliah, Wendy & Lisa but foreal he doesn't need them. My eyes were on P and that friggin guitar the whole time eek

The man is a bad ass no doubt! Ok maybe one eye was Tamar who is a fine peice of chocalate!

almost agree 100% with ya except for D. i thought she was a bit off...but i'll have to listen again..i thought it was towards the end of Fury where she sounded a lil off beat...

re: w&l, for me its the chemistry...i love watching wendy look at prince and at lisa..its cute...and to see lisa in a long coat and blowing her bangs up was cool. but musically, yeah....none of their own personal touches....hopefully this is just the start of an awesome year....even if they dont continue to play with prince im excited for them..and im excited for prince too..this is gonna be a kick arse year.

i would love to see prince tour with Sheila's COED team....wendy, lisa, kat, rhonda (yeah..i'll even take rhonda) and cassandra...and im warming to tamar and the twins used sparingly...like for four songs or so....

BUT DONT LET TAMAR SING PURPLE RAIN!! I couldnt stand it when Patti Lulabelle did it during Family Jamm and I didnt like Tamar doing it...the backing vocals on Purple Rain are supposed to be subtle...

not musical chemistry...just their interaction...but its something im probably used to after seeing the girls play six times in the last few months in very intimate setting...its the facial expressions they make to it each other..its cute to see it now in a huge outlet like the brit awards.

Another fabulous performance from Prince! dancing jig

I do agree--Shelia seemed a bit off--her solo didn't really seem to fit that well with the song. But she still kicks ass. And love the new bob.

Wendy & Lisa were cool...didn't get all choked up like some did, but then again I didn't follow Prince back when I was 9. biggrin

Still wish he would ditch the twins & Cora--they just don't impress me.

Prince looked like he was having a blast. guitar headbang

i really think this performance was a landmark moment in Prince fandom. Just fucking incredible.

But I did wonder about the interaction (or lack thereof) between Prince and Wendy. When she stood by him that one time, it was just for a brief second.

Just saw it.

I didn't realize Sheila took over for Cora during Purple Rain! Cool smile

It was great to see everyone together. Fury is growing on me too.

The sound mix wasn't too great...hard to hear all the instruments.

And Sheila's timbale solo was fast but it kind of fit the beat they were using for LGC..... the song doesn't really work with a Latin rythm.
