Fun with Video iPod (Photo attached)

If you don't have a life like me, and have a video ipod with a ton of older Prince songs on it, you can do what I did this weekend.

I spent the weekend attaching a photo to each MP3 so that when they play, the photo shows up next to the artist/song/album.

I used amazon.com, google images and Esprit. I found that Esprit was great for a lot of stuff from the 80s (import singles, etc) where you'll find photos that generally aren't anywhere else. (Not just Prince...)

Yeah, it was time consuming, but when something plays from "Ultimate Prince" on my video ipod now, the artwork from the 7" of "Raspberry Beret" will come up next to the info, the artwork for the super rare 12" of "Let's Work" shows up next to the info of that MP3...

Amazon was used mostly since there was no need to resize images.

Just something else to kill time I suppose, and faster than scanning all of my CDs...

P.S. The 634 images only took up 4.23MB.

i started doing it by final album, but took it a step further... prince's early singles had such great artwork that it just begged to be done.

hey, since you've already gone through the effort, perhaps you could dump all the pics into a big ol' zip file and let those of us who don't have time to track them all down at it?

Actually, this works on the 4th generation color iPod's as well as the 5th generation "video" iPods and iPod nano's...

ahh...i've been thinking about possibly upgrading from a mini to a nano anyway, whenever i get enough money. i'm still kinna scurred that i might wind up losing a nano if i got one, since it's so small & skinny.

Then I've got a short story for you:
A buddy of mine from work had a 4th Generation iPod, an iPod mini, and an iPod shuffle. Shortly before the nano came out, he sold the full size unit in anticipation of a new iPod comeing soon. The day the nano was announced, he sold me the shuffle (for real cheap, too). On the Friday after the nano came out, he bought one, the next day he sold the mini (for cheap, also).

On Sunday, he forgot his nano in his jeans pocket, sending it through the entire wash/dry cycle!!

And finally, to add insult to injury, the next month was filled w/stories of people selling the mini's on e-bay for up to twice the price they originally paid for!

But for the short time he was able to enjoy it, it was his most favorite iPod!

omfg holy crap, man! i don't think i'd end up losing a nano that way, because i always make sure to take my mini outta my pocket after i come home for the day. same when i had my shuffle, and that's even teensier than a nano.

Yeah, I've done this with all of my tunes in my iPod as well. I only do the album covers though (CD Singles as well). It does take a little time but I don't mind. I also use Google for images as well. I have a 60 GB iPod Photo. Love it!! thumbs up!

i've the 30gb one. i think the only reason i'd have the 60gb is to put full length movies on it... but not until they make the batteries last longer.

i have 200gb in mp3s, but who listens to more than 1500 or so? heh

Or you could use THIS
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

wouldn't work for the way i have my mp3s labeled, but it might work for others (based on the reviews.)

but my point with this was that you could customize with the singles... which amazon doesn't list. even cd singles from just a few years ago aren't listed for some artists...

most of the stuff i used was from esprit... and google images...

then again, i doubt many people would customize as much as i have.

Actually, I started out adding pics to all my tracks (always front cover, sometimes back, cd, and interior art), but then I realized I was using an average of 500MB per track; I've always planned on haveing a lot of music (approaching 9000 tracks) and wanted to be able to carry them all around. doing the math, 9000 tracks at 500MB per track is over 4GB just for the pics. At that point I put on my blinders and decided to delete all the pics to save space (since my iPod doesn't show the pics anyway - it's too old).

Now that my wife has an iPod which WILL show the pics, and I'm contemplateing upgrading mine, I really wish I hadn't done that...

well, if it will make you feel any better, it's not like we actually look at the ipod when it's playing. so it's kind of a pointless thing to do unless you want to show someone the cover of the album or something smile

i'm not sure where you live, but your best bet if you live near a big city would be to post on craigslist to sell your ipod... that's where i got mine (only $200 for a 5G 30GB video ipod still sealed)

i'd only recommend making the deal in person though... and for cash.

good luck smile

will scan your itunes directory and find the album art of the net automatically. Depending on how much music, can do it in 10-20mins or less. If i can't find a exact match or finds multiple options, will give the option to choose.

not bad for a $10 program.
