It's okay, one of the better tracks on "3121", but I can't see myself listening to it much in the future. As nice as it is, it is a bit dull.

I bet most fans who aren't digging 3121 weren't there during '86-'88, or never responded to that period.

(I can't imagine that being possible biggrin )

This is the best, most old school Prince, studio recording, in many years.

After hearing it a couple hundred times it still makes me grin.

How can we convince him to put out a whole album in that vein? lol

Pure, post '91 Prince. Watered down Purple Rain. Not horrible, just not inspiring.

Oh my gosh. SOmebody please sedate me. This song screams inside joke. It's for all those people who have actually attended the performances at 3121. Lyrically, I think it's as awful as Lolita except I can tolerate the music to 3121. I stripped/muted the vocals on my XBOX and it sounds wonderful.

By the way, I was running around with a bottle in my mouth when Prince came out with I wanna be your lover and I have been a fan since. Gosh, twenty odd years.

I strongly argue the orignial version should have remained intact. I appreciate his attempt to make it reminiscent of the I Hate U album version but he sounds so half hearted. It comes across as filler on 3121 where the Music Club sing screams tormented romance.

Nah, don't like the track that much (fan since 1985).

For me, Lolita and The Dance represent old skool Prince more than 3121 does. Lolita could have been a cut from one of The Time albums, and The Dance could have easily been a track on Parade (apart from the dodgy Victoria Beckham/Cher vocal effect he used toward the end which he also used more extensively on the "track no self-respecting Prince fan should ever mention again" off of 3121).

Yeh I agree (fan since 1983)its definitly an 80's sounding Prince album which I like but i dont know that i would rank it any higher than any those 80's albums. Actually Lolita to me sounds like it could of been a track for the Graffiti Bridge album i think it would fit into the vibe of GB album. 3121 is a good album but i think if he really really wanted to do Great 80's style album, he should
work with some of those people he worked with in that era, he should get together with Lisa and Wendy, and Sheila E and anyone else from that era plus his current crew.

It's a good song but I don't consider it classic Prince. It sounds like something from the late 1980s which I still consider "new Prince". For classic "old Prince", it would definately be "Lolita".

Yeah, I agree. It's my fave song on that album. But it reminds me of even older P (83-86) and it has a Parliament type vibe to it. P fucked with that style for awhile in the mid 80's. That's what 3121 reminds me of.

Personally I've been a fan since 1984 and the whole 84-88 period is, without a doubt, Prince's golden era ("Parade", "Purple Rain", "ATWIAD", "SOTT" and "The Black Album" being my favourite of his albums) but "3121" leaves me pretty cold. Too bland, too ordinary, nothing really that special about it at all. What I always loved about Prince was that his records sounded like nobody else, but now he sounds like everybody else. Granted, live he's unbeatable, but in the studio he has gone dramatically downhill. In all honesty I've listened to "3121" maybe twice right the way through since the day it was released - there's just not a whole lot there to tempt me back.

Generally I agree with you.

But not the track "3121".

The album mostly yes, but 3121 is the glimmer of hope on the album.

Sorry, but the track "3121" doesn't do a thing for me. I was expecting a new party anthem but instead the song is just boring when it could have been so much better.

i agree... the song "3121" is raw Prince.... solid beat, hypnotic bass line, chicken grease rhythm guitar, deep to camille-pitched voices, dark overtones... Raw Prince at his best!!!

It's been said that this song was created within the past 2 years... I have my doubts -- I wouldn't be suprised if it was from the Mid 90's. Does anyone notice the same pitch shift effect on his guitar as the Undertaker songs? This may shock some folks but I wouldn't be surprised if 3121 is basically a compilation of material from old sessions except for maybe: Love, Incense and Candles, Beautiful Loved and Blessed, Te Amo Corazon...since they sound current and a real effort to make them sound mainstream. The Dance is from 2000.

Hey, isn't the song Musicology from 97? Also there was a long album title reported by Sheila E. around the time after NEWS, Xpectation...I forgot the title...Anyway, maybe some stuff carried over from that project, like Get on the Boat, Satisfied...This is all just my opinion and some thoughts I'm throwing out..because this is a very diverse album..not that he can't, but from his previous works this sounds like many of the songs were from different time periods..Does anyone get this vibe? I'm not complaining, I'm just curious what other music he's been creating and other stuff that's out there. This album has some strong songs, and clearly meant for commercial appeal and to be relative in the mainstream (whatever that's worth) again.

Oh yeah, 3121, my favorite song off the album.

3121 i think is one of the better songs on the album, it is kind of ol school mid 80's Prince , yeh its funky but I dont put it in same category as like "Erotic City", or even "Let me feel U Up", which ithink is the kinda vibe he was aiming for, its not one of his best title tracks like 1999 or Purple Rain but its a nice little funky song anyways cool

In a review someone said this track would fit on The Black Album.
4 a lot off people this is a Camille song,it's not my fav of the album;
Love,Lollita,Fury and The Word are,
But it's a great track and pure Prince cool
This is,4 a part, what he is all about!

Yeh My faves are similiar to your,
Love
3121
Beautiful Loved and Blessed
Lolita
The Word

I hear a lot of ol style Prince in the chorus of Love, it reminds of a certain vibe he had in the ol Prince era.

3121 is one of my faves from the album--except that corny line about going down like the wall of Berlin makes me cringe.

I'm undecided as to whether 3121 harkens back to classic Prince. To me the classic Prince sound is defined by the Minneapolis sound, with heavy keyboards (I'm thinking IWBYL, Uptown, Head, Sex Shooter) and I don't see 3121 as having the Minneapolis sound. But I would concede that 3121 is perhaps essential Prince--because there are a lot of "quintessential" Prince songs that don't have the Minneapolis sound (Kiss, HQ, Purple Rain, SOTT, Lovesexy, to name a few).

Same here.

3121 stands out a mile for me on that album.

One of the few tracks he's done since the 80s which is funky.

Others include: Paradigm, Days Of Wild, Race, Come (BE version), 1+1+1=3.
