Also, as a live entertainer he is great. Even Prince hasn't managed to keep an audience completely enthralled with a 90 minute acoustic set at the Royal Albert Hall with just himself, a drum machine, a guitar and a piano! Not many artists could pull that off.

i don't know why i'm getting involved. but the original poster's point is that it is ridiculous to frame prince in terms of being the 'black beck' because prince came first.

i.e. 'beck is the white prince' is an acceptable (if simplistic and wrong-headed) statement from a reviewer.

but 'prince is the black beck' is analagous to, oh, let's say...


'chuck d is the black eminem'


it's a CHRONOLOGY thing here. not to mention that the chronology implies an influence from the ORIGINAL artist (prince) to the LATER artist (beck). 'beck is the white prince' reverses the flow of time and the flow of influence in a very wrong way.
