princes new album"looking forward like john coltrane"

ive always felt that john coltrane, miles davis's and princes careers were/are so similar-esp.john coltranes-that man was crucified in the jazz media after A LOVE SUPREME-same as miles with his electric era-everyone wanting to copy what had gone before-instead these guys looked forwards-never repeating

now as much as i love 3121/musicology for me its prince looking a wee bit behind-im hoping the next album is a another shocking 360 turn just like TRC,expectation,xenophobia,ONA,N.E.W.S

i mean its safe to say that PRINCE has nothing to prove-his genius legacy is locked now in history.

its going to be intresting....hopefully!

poisonmouth

He could either do a "Purple Rain" and release an album that will consolidate his current popularity, or he could do an "Around the World in a Day" and release an album that will alienate his fair-weather friends. Or he could do both, simultaneously. Or something.

I hope so, too! Although Prince could do both if he felt like it. This "one commercial album every two years" schtick is a slight disappointment for me (I say "slight" because Musicology and 3121 are still good albums). Of course, there's always Tamar's album I guess....that's something, but it's not the shocking 360 turn for which I'm hoping.

.....
Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

I have to agree with you to a certain point.
I love TRC and agree it is an innovtive bold musical piece. NEWS and One Nite Alone? i find them unlistenable. NEWS it just...well he's not a jazz musician, so iut seems like he is copying Miles' turn as an avant garde jazz musician. nothing really innovative there except that he can say he's done jazz!
One Nite alone, while its nice to have a soft piano ballad album, seems quite soul-less. Given the state of his and mani's affairs now, it probably was.

I have a bad feeling he needs the money right now. hence the commercial output of Musicology and 3121...why no tour for 3121? its costs money. why do a cheesy ass American idol appearance and not Leno or his other favourites? they pay more, bigger audience.
he swarmed the BEt awards this year.
he's all over the place getting his name out there but to not follow up with a tour?

Anyways I digress...

another TRC 180 would be great but he cant afford that right now.

I think that the reason for no tour is simple....why tour, make a boatload of money, only to have to give Mani 1/2 of it??? Get the divorce finalized, throw a new album together(or not) shortly after and go for yours.....any $$ he makes after he is done with her will be his...makes perfect sense to me....

lol lol cool
You don't understand, I ain't scared of you muthafuckas!

exactly...snce he mustve lost 1/2 of musicology ($80 mil) to her anyways
plus any revenue the club pulls in...which acnt be much, but i think he's hiding his little assets as best as he can!

Who is it you are quoting when you say -"looking forward like John Coltrane"?
Prince?
Miles?
Your inner voice?

Well, you know your logic is a bit flawed. If he needed the cash, why not tour with 3121? It wouldn't cost him money. There's no way he'll lose money on tours nowadays. We pay almost any price for tix and the days of Lovesexy/D&P extravagancy are (thankfully) over.
