U can help! U voted, now let's get "LOVE" on the radio!!!

Recently I started a thread, titled “Let’s vote: If one more single from 3121 could make it big, what would U choose it 2 B?”

So far the responses to the thread have been overwhelming. And the winner is “LOVE”. I was awestruck by the number of responses the threads received, and thank all of you for taking the time to vote.

If you’re like me, you believe that ‘3121’ should have been much better received in popular culture than it was. We saw the release of several singles, and videos, a few live performances and a special cameo appearance on American Idol, and now the album has seems to have disappeared off the radar.

Let’s get ‘3121’ back on the charts! Here’s how you can help:

My challenge: I’d like for us here at Prince.org to start a nationwide campaign to get “LOVE” to be a hit on the radio. To do this, I’m going to need help, and lots of it. From you. And you. And you!

This is what I would like for you to do: I would like for at least one ‘fam’ (Org-member) from every major city in the U.S to help me by becoming one of my ‘Captains’. Ideally, I would like representatives, or Captains, from each of the top ten largest cities in the U.S. (but certainly not limited to them!) Each Captain will be responsible for the following three things:

1. ) First, your responsibility is to seek out biggest radio station in your area, which is MOST LIKELY to play a new song by Prince. Use your best judgment.
2. ) Post that station’s name and their request line telephone number here at the org IN THIS THREAD. Please list the city you are taking responsibility for in your reply. If possible, also find and post the request line e-mail address. If you feel like going the extra mile, also get the program manager’s name, phone number, and e-mail address and post that as well.
3. ) Then seek out 10 people who will commit to calling that radio station and requesting” LOVE” at least once a day, for one week solid! Have the people who call in stick to the following formula: “Hello, I’d like to make a request. Will you please play “LOVE” by Prince? Thank you!” Please be as polite as possible, even if they say no! The last thing we need is to turn them against us. The most important thing to do is just make that request. I know how repetitive and crazy calling the same station every day for a week sounds, but think of the buzz it will create inside the radio station!
4. ) Find out when each person called, whom he or she spoke to, and what the person responding to the request said. Then, post your responses here at the Org.

Now, Orgmembers, you can help too. If you live in a smaller city, call your favorite radio station and make your request, or feel free to call any of the other cities listed here in this thread.

You can read this thread and do one of three things. Do nothing, and the result is… nothing changes.

Or you can read this thread, get on the boat, and help out. All it will cost is a little time, and a phone call. Okay, it will cost you, (and everybody who helps you) 7 phone calls!!!! But you get my drift….

I know this is a long shot, and we may not be successful, but at least the radio stations will have heard our demands. At least they’ll know we still love Prince, and he may have a better shot at getting the recognition he deserves the next time he releases an elegant album like ‘3121’.

Join the Revolution! We are the New Power Generation, so let’s all act like it! There is strength in our numbers, so let’s show the world what we can do! Long live Prince!!!!

Please spread this to as many people as you can. Any questions let me know.

Peace, and lots and lots of 'LOVE'.

I'm all for guerilla tactics but something about the way you do it, makes it seem a bit corny. Maybe it's way you have that red shirt stuffed down your pants. Change your avatar and I'll make my call.

If I knew that this is what you had in mind, I would have picked Incense(radio edit, new rap) or The Word before Love. With the kind of push you're going for and the impact that it could have, The Dance would probably do best. If you're going to get enough attention to make people want to hear something because of the "fan push", then that's the song they should stop and listen to.

Love should have a visual component first...even if it's unofficial fan mashup type stuff.

And with all due respect, we voted and 'Love' won the vote-off.

Uhhh, what's the point? Shouldn't you have done this back in March or something?

I voted Love (with video component). Now that your full plan is revealed, will the vote change? Should you wipe the slate?

See...you have to be upfront about these things.

Love is one of my favorite cuts, but as far as being radio friendly Incense and Candles would work best.

I'm willing to call if we can all agree on that, but let's face it, the requests would have to be overwhelming to get the programmers to even notice.

Before the second round of voting begins, if it does:

1. Will The Dance (radio edit) have the end included?
2. Will Incense and Candles have a different rap?

I think it's a good idea, but I think a track like 'The Word' would be the most radio friendly.
The melody of the guitar and sax (well think its a sax eek )throughout the track is very 'catchy', it stays in your head. Even non-Prince fan friends of mine were in my house the other day, I had the album playing in the background and they all commented on 'The Word' when it came on, they thought it was really good.
All of me I give 2 thee down at your feet
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me

As much as I love 3121, I think it's now a case of 'Move along, there's nothing to see here'.

Roll on 2007's project; I'm sure there'll be one.

I have a question that's been buggin' me for a long time...
Can someone please explain the components to a so-called
"radio friendly" piece?

Everyone talks in terms of radio-friendly...WTH does that really mean? confused

I love the song, but geez I don't even listen to the radio, so who cares smile

These days albums don't sell like they used to anyway, even with a string of
big singles (ie: if it were 1998, Nelly Furtado would be 3x platinum by now lol )
So, as far as I'm concerned taking age, promotion, and style into account
3121 didn't do bad at all!

People wanna compare Prince with friggin 20 year old Timberlake who's in his peak right now...Well you know what? P has been there, done that, and is still around to talk about it! Where will Justin be in 25 years???

.....but I digress lol ....sorry!
If you will, so will I
