The funkiest: Prince, George, James, Sly, Rick

I've thought about this for some time as well as some of you about who is the funkiest male artist of our time. If you can put in order from 1 to 5, 1 being the best, how will your list look like. Here's mine:
1.Prince
2.George Clinton
3.Rick James
4.James Brown
5.Sly Stone

Do your list look like mine or is it different.
Peace and be wild!

Mine looks almost exactly like yours,
except I put in a little more space between the names & the numbers.

I like that analysis!!! nod lol

For me, I started out a Rick fan.... that's Nostalgia Funk music

Prince came much later- he became the LIVE Funk headbang

Sly, well- (insert "funk face" here) shake

George is "WHAT the funk?" eek

and James is Ol' School Funk fro

James Brown was the funkiest. His sound was organic and moody and rubbery and hardcore.

datdude

1. James Brown (c'mon he INVENTED the genre)
2. Prince (His best, most well rounded "protege")
3. George (Took the funk to intergalactic heights with comical imagery & depth)
4. Rick James (Please don't remember him for the Chappelle skit)
5. Sly (Family Friendly Funk Genius)

I look at funk almost as a living, breathing, organic being. They all played a role in its growth and development. Here's my list:

1)James Brown. He basically invented the genre. He was as much of an influence on the development of popular music as the Beatles, if not more so. JB is the father of the funk.

2)George Clinton. He is the perverted uncle that let funk look at the girlie magazines and taught it how to be both silly and serious. As George himself said, "James invented funk, I just came and babysat it for a while."

3)Sly Stone. Sly was the one who taught funk to expand it's horizons. Sly was like the teacher who really pushed because he saw the true potential in funk if it broke out of it's own preconcieved notions.

4)Tie. Prince and Rick James. Prince and Rick are the two competitive cousins who don't like each other and would do everything to show the other one up. I've often said the only real difference between the two was that Rick tried to come across as more "ghetto" and "hard" while Prince was not. Rick would take funk to a gang fight, Prince would take funk to a chick flick, and they both would take funk to an orgy.

When you mention funk, the funkiest funk is by groups....The Barkays, Brick, The Dazz Band, The Ohio Players, Midnight Star, Zapp, Cameo, Slave, Skyy, etc.
