Prince on the cover of LiveDesign April 2007

For all those interested, Prince is on the cover of LiveDesign April 2007. There is an article about the setup for the super bowl performance. It is mostly technical but there are some cool pictures. It also has a link for the show sketches:

interestingly, this issue also covers JT's tour....hmph.

Snap

Considering everything involved and the potential for disaster on so many levels in this type of situation, Prince and all those involved really should be commended for pulling the whole thing off so magnificently! Great article.

Prince thumbs up!

I guess I could check at Barnes and Noble, but I wanted to make sure first before I start searching for a mag that doesn't exist! lol

My husband picked it up for me at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) convention in Las Vegas this week. I have no clue where you'd get it.

Thanks a million for the article. I'm going to print it and save it with the rest of my Superbowl memories. There's so many stories from that week. I wish you guys could have been there.

The technicians are correct, the effect of the whole experience was downright magical. The night of the Superbowl was actually our 4th time doing the show. The biggest difference from the rehearsals was the pyro. During the first run through when those huge flames came up I was scared for Prince, eek But the effect was incredible because there was hardly any smoke. The night of the SB you guys saw a lot of smoke because of the rain but it was a fair trade because of the way the rain made the lights sparkle. Awesome!

Prince was in great form throughout, including the rehearsals and even when the mic smacked him right in the mouth as they lowered him from the stage at the last rehearsal! I got the feeling that he was just as excited as we were to be there and nothing short of a monsoon could have kept him from performing that night. Yes folks, they were all playing live and they tore it up every single time! Prince of course, was outstanding as usual.

I was on the dance crew. When the music cued us we had only a couple of minutes to get into position on the field, dance like crazy, then get out of the way because the stage crew was running right behind us with those huge stage pieces.

I wish you could have seen a little more FAMU also because those kids were steppin' like crazy and it looked really cool the way they had them all lit up. The way everything came together with literally hundreds of people involved really was a small miracle.

I had to stand and watch from the sidelines at halftime because I hurt my knee in the staging area before we got to the stadium, (weeks later I found out it was fractured). We were all soaked to the skin in the pouring rain and wind but I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks, the knee is much better. It was an unforgettable week for sure, and that night was so awesome I didn't even know my darn knee was fractured! eek I thought it was a bad sprain. My coworker told me that one guy broke his leg during the show and another lady fainted. There were hundreds of us so there was bound to be a few mishaps but nobody was sorry they came.

Prince seemed very pleased with the FAMU band and the whole event and boy did he show it! He played his heart out and the crowd loved every minute of it.

In the upper right hand corner it says "subscribe to print magazine." So I guess there is a print version.
