It's not like it's the end of the world, ya'll. The word "weave" has such a negative connotation to it. It's ghetto almost. Dig, white people have been wearing hair peices since the 50's. White women have been wearing hair extensions since the 70's. It's far from anything new. P was/is an entertainer. U had brothers in the 60's wearing some serious afro wigs and other wigs with different textures. Not just cats from the Ohio Players and Sly Stone. Sly wore some Mozart looking wigs. Him and Larry Graham both. During Purple Rain, that's where P got that look from. Look at any Graham Central Station album from the 70's. Larry's wearing some waaay out Bethoven looking loopty loop curl having wigs that made P's Purple Rain look like he was in the military. Rick James wore wigs and extensions. Lot of folks think P is beyond extensions because his fairly light skinned. Nah,...no dice. P is the same complexion as the brother who played Dwayne on What's Happening! And they had the same fro as well.

Uh,...I hate to burst your bubble but P has worn hair pieces since his Controversy days. And extensions since Purple Rain. He took it out during Parade and put it right back in on Signs, Lovesexy, GB. P wore his real hair in the video of Alphabet St and the promos for the album, but when he went on the Lovesexy tour, he's wearing extensions. Just like Sheila E and Cat. It's obvious. P's natural hair texture isn't curly like that of Purple rain or that on the Lovesexy tour. P's natural texture when pressed straight is that on his second album, Dirty Mind and Controversy. But early on the Controversy tour, P put in a hair piece in the front, which was curly. Like I said, it's obvious. You could see it during the show on the Controversy tour. About half way through the concert, after P was sweating up a storm, all of his hair, besides the front piece, had roughed up. Or as blacks say, "went back". He had sweated in his head and his hair wasn't nearly as straight as it was in the beginning of the show. So the curly piece that he had stitched in that hung over his eye really stood out. On the 1999 tour, he had more of the curly texture woven in. Same as with Purple Rain. Even more so. I thought ya'll knew.

Several women in the industry, white, black, hispanic, wears extensions. Hell, Jessica Simpson has done info commercials promoting extensions. Nobody says dick about it. If folks even suspect that Beyonce is wearing extensions, then she gets talked about like a dog. It's o.k. for Jennifer Lopez to wear extensions but if Jennifer Hudson wears it, then it's a "weave". It's that ole' double standard and that shit's not cool. Obviously P could careless about it cuz he cut his shit real short for UTCM and the Parade tour and less than a year later, my man was rocking a full head with a long thick pony tail to boot during Signs. He wasn't trying to hide shit. It was simply a look he wanted for that time and he had access to it. Period.

It just took me a full year to grow my hair from a short, layered cut to a chin-length bob -- and my hair wasn't as short as Prince's Parade hair. You're right -- there's no way he could have grown it from crop to braids as fast as he appeared to.

Everyone's hair doesn't grow at the same rate though. I can see him going from the length in Parade to the SOTT video in a year or so.

There may be some slight varations in hair-growth rates -- but if Prince's grows faster than mine, I'd be amazed.

well, that's kind of what I meant when I said I would prefer to stay in denial. I've got no problem with weaves, and do know a couple of guys, also musicians, with them. I wasn't really that shocked to hear it was a weave.

I'd just prefer to think of Prince as a Hair God, lol who can make his hair do anything he wants at any time. biggrin And I still like that look the best- weave or no weave!!!

As I posted earlier, I've always worn my hair long. U can see me on the 20th year Special Edition Purple Rain dvd. I'm in about 6 different shots in the footage of the premire of Purple Rain at Mann's Chinese. I was in high school then. Just look for the cat wearing a white head band and white ruffle shirt and black coat with white gloves. That's me. My hair is hitting the sky. Anyway, I've always related to P waaaay more when he wore his hair long. In Jr. High and high school, I definately patterened my hair after P, Jesse and Hendrix. Mine ended up a combo of all three.
