Entertainment Weekly Names Purple Rain the #1 Classic Album of the Past 25 Years

I just perused my EW which is celebrating its 1000th issue by naming the top 100 movies, TV shows, albums, books, etc of the past 25 years and PR was the #1 album.

Well, if Entertainment Weekly says it's #1, then I guess I'll finally have to cave and buy the CD. It better be good.

Here is their top 10 list
ALBUMS
1. Purple Rain, Prince and the Revolution
2. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Lauryn Hill
3. Achtung Baby, U2
4. The College Dropout, Kanye West
5. Madonna, Madonna
6. American Idiot, Green Day
7. The Blueprint, Jay-Z
8. Graceland, Paul Simon
9. Back to Black, Amy Winehouse
10. In Rainbows, Radiohead

I'm glad "Graceland" made the 10, one of my favorite albums,
I've been listening to "In Rainbows" a lot lately, great album but there is no way i would put it in the best of the last 25 years! much less Kanye West!

i love 'in rainbows' and i know that doesn't belong in the top 10. 'ok computer'? maybe.

and kanye? wtf?!? if they wanted a crowdpleasing hip-hop album to round out the top ten list, throw in outkast. their most popular albums had more of a lasting effect than 'the college dropout', no?

Hmmm
I have the Top 5 and Amy Winehouse.
I did not like Graceland, although I thought it was well performed and produced.

I'm sure someone here has or is working on as we speak their own Top 100 of the past twenty five years.
Believe me, NewPowerSoul would be one of them. Haterz, smaterz. "It's a full moon, I'm a werewolf, bitch - kiss my ass!" wink

at least graceland had an impact on music. after that album hit big in the 80s, you had tons of pop artists experimenting with "world music" on their albums. it became the chic thing to do for a while. he was partially responsible for that becoming popular.

Where are SOTT and Parade. I was gonna mention 1999 but it doesn't make it by one year. Does "classic" mean "best"?

No Bjork, PJ Harvey, Meshell Ndegeocello, Fiona Apple, Public Enemy- just a few of my favorites.
