It appeals to one's senses or it does not. If the art he is creating doesn't appeal to you anymore, it does not mean that he is "making a fool of himself", it simply means that his art does not speak to you anymore. But just because it doesn't speak to you, doesn't mean it doesn't speak to others. Art is very subjective to the individual perceiving that artwork, in whatever form that art takes, and becomes as much a part of the individual partaking of the art as the creator of the art. So while the artist may create a form of art, the perceiver then becomes the creator through their perceptions of that art and re-create that art into what they "believe" it to be.
