Sign O' The Times Remixes question

I found a couple of tracks labeled "Sign O' The Times Remix I" and "Sign O' The Times Remix II". They're are sourced to be from a Thunderball release called "The Illusion Continues."

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about these, because they sound more like alternate mixes than actual remixes. Then again, with as many people that like to redo Prince songs they could easily be illegitimate.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I tried searching, but after the first four pages of threads brought up that didn't answer any questions, I kind of gave up.
Listen2Prince !!

U can listen to a different Prince project every week for a year! Sometimes U might have to double (or triple) up on related albums to make it fit, tho.

they're just fake fan-made mixes/edits if I remember correctly.

If it never came out under the Paisley Park or WB label, I consider it fake. There's not going to be some weird remix, especially from the 80's, or even 90's to some extent, floating around out there that is suddenly discovered. Prince released what he did, and we all know what those mixes are. They might be on other compilations (like a German single might have other random mixes, opposed to just mixes from the one album....like a CD might have mixes from SOTT, Lovesexy, and Batman on it), but it's still official remixes from Prince.

Prince, to my knowledge, has never named mixes "1" and "2". So the consistency in the naming alone would throw up a flag that those mixes aren't official.

sort of what i thought. I just wasn't sure if they were alternate mixes some greedy sob renamed as remixes to sell them.

But working in studios myself, I know that we tend to just name alternate mixes of songs with the title and a number just to differentiate them. I knew they weren't officially released, and I also know Thunderball and a few of the others liked to name tracks themselves to get people to buy their more thrown together releases (like The Illusion Continues).

That type of thing drives me nuts. I'm big into DMB and the Dead as well, and I have never been asked to pay anything for a bootleg of their works.

Any unreleased remixes are probably already on a bootleg somewhere, like The Work, etc. There's so few-to-none leaks coming out anymore. I think whatever was leaked at any point has been leaked all over thanks to the internet.

I knew it wasn't a new leak or anything, it was just new to being in my possession.

I just didn't know if they were actually alternate mixes that Thunderball renamed or if they were fan-made.

Probably DMC remixes, they were independently mixed and sent out to members of a remix mail order club.
I have SOTT Live & Dangerous Mix on 12" vinyl from DMC. They were totally unofficial but sometimes cool, in fact I'm almost certain that the Housequake Razormade Remix was so good that it got an "official" release. Maybe someone on here can add more details to that....?

It's "Razormaid!".

And it IS OFFICIAL. They worked from the multi-track.

Prince contacted the guy at Razormaid after hearing a New Order remix
he had done (Unoficial Razormaid Mix) and contracted him to do a
"Video Mix" of Housequake... The guy said NO but Prince ave him
$15,000 and dropped the multi off so the guy kinda HAD to do it
(although he wanted NOTHING to do with Prince in any way).

He sent word that it was done and never heard from Prince again.

In Razormaids clause it states something like "If the tapes aren't
piocked up afgter 30 days Razormaid owns them and can do what they
want with it." Hence the Compilation discs with Housequake on them.

One of the problems that we have been having lately is 50 year old artists (I won't mention names) who's careers are over, flat broke and lot's of time on their hands, seeing our web site. Desperately seeking a "loop hole" in our contract, they go out and hire a lawyer in an effort to get additional royalties for something we had permission on 12 years ago. I don't want to elaborate to much, but let me suffice to say that I do not enjoy looking up contracts from 12 years ago, (where it states they have waived all future royalty payments in exchange of me receiving full payment for my services), just to prove our innocence!

Ghee, I wonder who they're talking about...

^ more fake "promo"s.

The official release info seems sound, but as soon as you get into the area of
promos, in-house material and unreleased stuff, that site seems to have a
worrying amount of fake and false info.
