In Holland he freqently stayed at the American Hotel in Amsterdam according to Candy Dulfer, she said this in a interview back in the 90s when he stayed there during the Lovesexy Tour

In Copenhagen he mostly stayed at Hotel D’Angleterre.

Here's an eyewitness account (David Grey):

"RIP to Prince – a great musician and as crazy and Paranoid as they come!! I cooked for his band in the Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen during the Love Sexy tour in the late 80′s – he had a private Chef- she worked on my station while he was there cooking awful bland pasta and boiled Chicken for him- we tasted it after she left (dreadful )- she also left a massive mess and didn’t clean up!! One of the waiters gave me and a friend tickets to the VIP after concert party in Annabel’s nightclub in Copenhagen – we went to the gig and afterwards went to the after party – his band were mixing with everyone and the big black dude with a leather cap in his band was cool and chatting up Danish girls- Prince came in surrounded by security – everyone had to move away from where he was sitting – he sat down, a babe each side of him, hair over his face and every now and then looked up very nervously – totally paranoid – we were told he was convinced someone would shoot him or attack him! He booked an entire floor of the hotel too (the most expensive in Denmark )- had security at all entrances while he was there- very paranoid guy! We had an EU leaders summit in Copenhagen too while I was there, Charlie Haughey, the Italian Premier and one other Premier (forget where from) stayed- Charlie had little or no security – the Italian PM had max 2 security on at any one time- I could have shot them far easier than Prince! Lol He was totally the opposite of the guy we saw earlier on stage, petrified and scared looking even though there was only a small crowd of no more than 100 people there! I liked his music, but was really put off by him when seeing him in person- Totally crazy and very afraid and Paranoid! RIP"

In London, during the 21 Nights o2 residency, he stayed at the Dorchester. It's where a lot of pics in the 21 Nights book are taken, I think? And in Leeds, in 2014, he was at the Malmaison.

If anyone knows which hotel Prince and his band stayed where they watched the Nostradamus film on HBO during the Controversy Tour in February 1982 wins five pounds and also pinpoints the likely date he wrote 1999.

Probably because of how easy it was for Mark David Chapman to kill John Lennon. I'm sure that made a lot of celebrities paranoid.

Didn’t Prince stay in a building across the road from the Dakota building, or nearby, where Lennon was shot in New York? Prince played a show at the Ritz the next day, for the Dirty Mind tour.

From the Goldies Parade website (but possibly a quote from elsewhere): “The 10 December 1980 concert at The Ritz, New York City was a seminal moment in Prince’s career, the show that got him noticed in the music scene – in attendance were A-list celebrities including Nile Rodgers, Andy Warhol, the rock band Kiss and a slew of reporters, including Rolling Stone magazine. It was also an eerily poignant night, John Lennon had been murdered in the city just hours before.”

I seem to remember he stayed there in ‘92 too, while the rest of the band were at The Royal Garden hotel biggrin

ROBBIE PASTER (Prince's valet talking about the 1988 Lovesexy tour, I think): He always had a baby grand
piano in the hotel rooms so he could play his music. One of the
promoters said, "We can't get a baby grand piano up in the room."
This was the Chelsea Harbor Hilton in London. I said, "There's got
to be a way. It's the Presidential Suite." He said, "The only way
we could do it is if we got a crane and lifted it over the
balcony." I said, "Do that." So they lifted it up three floors, and
took it out the same way. Who knows how much that cost? Who cares
how much that cost? We were there for a month, gotta have a piano.
In those days, you didn't want to cut corners.

Lovesexy era, wasn't The Black Album cancellation steeped in paranoia as well?

It was steeped in something else but I know a lot of fans can't handle the idea that he wasn't 24/7/365 straight-edge.

Liking this topic and learning stuff too. Anyway this link states where Prince stayed for the Rock In Rio festival: The Rio Palace Hotel, located in the famous Copacabana beach.

https://theiconicprince.w...in-brazil/

It mentions also, “The complete story about Prince’s performances in Rock in Rio and some details about the week he spent in Rio de Janeiro are in the Brazilian journalist Luiz Felipe Carneiro’s book “Rock in Rio – A História do Maior Festival de Música do Mundo.” (Rock in Rio, The History of the Biggest Music Festival of the World.) Carneiro’s book is the best source for those who want to know a little more about the festival and the goings on backstage.”

So the book is probably worth a look if you can translate it.

That explains his paranoia then, that would cause just about anyone to act that way I'd think...

In 1987 & 1988 Prince stayed at the Ramada hotel (as it is called today) in Antwerp during his tours. There they had a suite all decorated in purple. Furniture and everything. The tour had been announced well in advance, and they had time to do it. Not by request, but simply because the then hotel owner was a mega Prince fan.
Seven years ago our architectural firm did the remodel of the entire hotel, and that's how I found out. We left the suite as it was. Totally eighties, and it's still there, subject to minor contemporary modifications.

In Brussels Prince often stayed at the Amigo, or Steigenberger, depending on how big his management and crew was.

Prince gave a press conference at the Hotel Costes in Paris, around the time he played a couple of shows at the Grand Palias in 2009.

Article in French about it: https://www.lemonde.fr/cu..._3246.html

So since he had an apartment in Paris (on Avenue Foch), I’m not sure he would have stayed at the Hotel Costes.

Footage of at least parts of the interview are searchable on u know what chube!

I definitely believe this was a major factor, as well as the fact that his management was rumored to have mob ties. The two things together likely added up to create some paranoia in a guy who had a very unstable upbringing to begin with.

Here in Hamburg (Germany) he stayed at least once in the "Marriott" hotel, which, funnily enough, is in a street named "ABC-Str.".
So I think it's possible that he could have had the idea for "Alphabet St." here.
And there was also a club called "Madhouse" very close to the hotel (10 minutes' walk away) in the mid-80s.
Prince was in Hamburg for the first time in 1986.

That would be fantastic if staying on ABC Strasse did inspire Alphabet and is very plausible. Can anybody trace the date of the acoustic/demo version of the song? The Hamburg shows for the Parade tour were on 30 & 31 August 1986, so well over a year before Alphabet Street was recorded in December 1987 (but that’s not to say he didn’t do a demo or wrote a sketch of lyrics well before).

When Prince played in Monaco in august 2009, he stayed at the "Hotel de Paris" (which probably is the most expensive hotel there), while the band was at "The Hermitage" (which must be number 2 smile )

We wanted to book the "Hotel de Paris", too, but it was sold out, so we went to the "Hermitage", instead. I will never forget when we arrived around midday on august 13, checked in and went to the pool on top of the building. The first person I saw was the then very young (child) daughter of a Boris Becker "broom closet" affair, Anna Ernakova and then - tho whole Prince band in the pool! I actually took a shower before entering the pool and John Blackwell showered himself opposite of me, telling me, what a beautiful place this is and we had a nice chat. I just thought, "you won't believe why I'm here". He later excused himself with "have to go now", which meant -of course- they were doing the soundcheck.
Next day we meet again, me wearing a Prince shirt and he was laughing. We chatted again and wrote some e-mails later.

The "Hermitage" didn't have any rooms left for the next night, otherwise we probably would have done the Monaco Sporting dinner show three days later, too. There were still some tickets available.

Another hotel Prince is said to have stayed at was the Nova Park Hotel (looks like it was quite a swanky place to stay https://www.nytimes.com/1...otel.html) in Paris in mid-late June 1985, when Prince and some members of his entourage were preparing for Under The Cherry Moon, to meet potential cast members and scouting locations. Also said to have played two or three songs alone, probably on the piano, around this time at The Cabaret Le Milliardaire, which was very near the hotel.

I didn't know about this stay in Paris.

I know that he stayed at the famous hotel "Le Crillon" where he officially got engaged with Susannah (Podcast "Sign O' The Times" Super Deluxe) & played piano near by (at Maxim's).

I love so much the "Parade" era...
