"Frontin" by Pharrell - meant for Prince??

Forgive me if this has been discussed already neutral but when I hear this song I can't help but think how much better it would be if P were singing it. I wonder if he was ever approached about it & turned it down. Just a thought... smile
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I heard that it's was written with him in mind. Don't know if he got as far as approaching him though.

Is anyone else bloody sick of the Neptunes now?

Yo, didn't Prince have the Nuptunes do a remix 4 The Greatest Romance ? I once heard Pharrel say he
would like to work with Prince. So I'm guessing he has never worked with Prince but remixed that jam. What do u think Prince thinks about his "Frontin" jam? I like it. Smooth feel at the end!

I heard that it was written for Prince, but he turned it down. I would have loved to hear him cover it. Frontin' is a decent song, but hmm@ Pha-real's vocals. He has quirky appeal as a hook singer, but a whole song is just intolerable!

It's called "The Neptune Remix," and it's a remix by The Neptunes, aka Pharrell and the dude whose name I can never remember. wink

cool The song is not bad at all. I like it. I think Prince should have done it. I heard he wrote the song for Prince only, & refused to use it when Prince turned it down. His people begged him to put it out when they heard it. They told him it was a sure hit. music

it has that Skeleton Feel that Prince use to do back in the Mid 80's.like with "Hot Thing",Kiss,etc.. Prince would have ripped this track IMHO.PharrellSetto Cracks Me up with His Randy Watson Singing Self.

This is his worst vocal performance I've heard.

that song doesn't meet the standard of what I expect of Prince. the lyrics do not fit him and nor does the music. Its an average song at best, and this song getting a lot of airplay shows you how garbage music has become.

any1 knows at least by now Prince would NOT record nothing else somebody has given 2 him. He's just not that type of person, unless it was "Partyup" of course.

DrD

It is a very good song, it has that genuine simplicity and deep hapiness that brought prince so many hits and that he has lost...

It makes me feel good, a feeling I did not have with any Prince song since ages (even though I like most of his recent output, including TRC and even NEWS)

Why do some think it is sub-standard ? Are there really less ideas here than, say, in cream or Get off ? Come on, give us a break, there are many good things happening in music today, actually far greater than back in the 1980s when prince almost the only artist pushing music forward... The only thing is that with very few exceptions (DrDre, the Neptunes), the most talented artists around, those that have brought something that changes the course of music whether you like it or not, are no longer the biggest stars as was the case in the past

I love this song..and I rarely like songs in the charts
I love the strings at the end
I can't believe it was written for Prince
The Neptunes are the only artists around now that are comparable to Prince; though their songs are starting to sound a bit similar eg. Frontin', Beautiful, Rock your body

I've been a fan of the Neptunes since I fisrt heard "super thug" by Noreaga. They are off-center and on at the same time.I like their experiments and their open-mindedness to styles of music. However,"frontin'" is clearly not good enough to be a "Prince" song.It is actually kinda' wack ,although,I find myself singing the hook.I also really like the breakdown part.

Pharrell does well singing hooks and singing the N.E.R.D stuff. This is stretching his "singing" concept to the limit.I read a reviewer describe "frontin'" as a joke taken seriously or something like that.I agreed. It is catchy, though. It's just that EVERYONE would be complaining if Prince had really recorded this and released it.It would be a chart hit,but there would be a lot of flack for it.

The boys really need to buy a new keyboard, too. Those cheesy casio sounds are killing my eras.

I heard that those two guys wrote the song and sent him the demo for his use, no response, so they just put it out themselves.
