Some inside NPG info!

A few items of interest:

1. Turns out RAD has been let go from the NPG! It happened after the Ellen show but don't know the reason for the firing.

2. Mike Scott will be back in the line-up for the HOF show, but still no word if he will be on the tour or not.

3. For those of you who were happy to see Wendy play with Prince on the Tavis show, you can thank Mr. Scott for that. He was contacted and asked if he could be on a plane in an hour but he was already committed to play another gig that night out-of-state. Interesting how things work out, isn't it?

This post is not bullshit and I stand behind it. I am not going to say who my source is right now, but if you look at my subject line, 'Some inside NPG info!', I think it is self-explanatory.

I was surprised about the RAD thing myself, and even more so the fact that it hadn't come out yet. Unless something has changed in the past 24 hours, she is no longer in the band! But it is what it is and I wouldn't post this if was second hand info. I did that once recently and it was the only time I have posted incorrect info/news here on the ORG. Oh well, live and learn.

I saw Prince looking at Rad during I Feel 4 U on Ellen. I only noticed cause she was off-key and a bit behind on the backing vox at one point. I'm no musician, but i heard it. I'm damn sure Prince did.

If this is even true, i'm sure John Blackwell won't be happy. He recommended her to Prince. confused

I think im just in denial about the whole RAD thing i guess. I like her and I think that she's not the first new member to 'fuck up'. She's been in the group less than a year, and I think through time, she could pick it up real fast - Save RAD i say!

I assume you mean that one time when you said Prince would be announcing a record deal with J Records at the press conference.

Well be that as it may.... you happen to know anything else about it (why he didn't sign/ whether he's gonna sign a deal at all?)

Taking all of this with a skeptical point of view... here are my thoughts.

First, why "Sartoria" are you putting your source at risk?

Other toughts

1. If RAD is out, it could be for a lot of different reasons... maybe it was a mutual thing. But aside from that, if the speculation is true, I'm guessing that Chance was brought in and has probably shown Prince that he doesn't need 3 keyboard players. After having played with The Time, Chance probably has a better understanding of Prince's music and could've quite simply beat RAD out for the slot in the band.

2. After having heard Mike Scott on "Ellen", I can see that Prince really needs a guitar player if he (Prince) is to focus more on dancing and entertaining. So that would seem to make sense if Prince is playing in the round and wants to be free to work the crowd a little more instead of focusing on his own playing. Besides, did anyone notice how well Mike Scott played the guitar on Kiss? I listened to the performance in my headphones, and it sounded flawless to me.

If RAD has been ousted, I think it's great. Now she can get back to making more of her wonderful music.

I find it odd that Prince would fire her for supposedly singing some backup vocals out of tune, when Rhonda's been doing that for 8 years now.

Nobody said that, it is merely speculations going 'round.
Sartoria stated the he/she does not know the exact conditions under which the decision was made.
If and when .RAD is really out of the band can easily be checked by looking at the upcoming public appearances.

And I 'somehow' get the idea that Prince considers 'real' background singers not funky.

That would be the one Xpertlover. I talked to a friend who is with the Beyonce tour who heard that during the Grammy rehearsals. When I asked how sure he was, he said 60%. I went ahead and posted it as fact anyway. Stupid, and I had a feeling when I did it that this could very well be weak info. I should of posted it as rumor or second hand.

Anyway, I haven't heard why he didn't sign but another person closer to it did say that was at the time of the press conference very close to signing with J. I'll try to find out after the HOF what is what on that front.

Hey Anji - yeah I remember the McGoo story I told of the song POOR GOO. Someone posted a question about that song and I was curious too, so I asked McGoo about it. Pretty funny stuff.

Thanks for remembering that one.

I'll see if I can find out anything after the HOF. Oh, and the NPG are starting full-time rehearsals this Friday. I'm assuming in LA.

I think the Today Show thing is pre-taped and not live.

And is it a performance, or just Prince (sans band) talking with Matt Lauer?

Me, neither. As far as I know, The NPG band was disbanded in '96 and Prince has been using ever-changing hired musicians since then. Dunno why he's still using the NPG moniker. biggrin

Damn! If that's true, then that's too bad. RAD was a looker. If Rhonda is wearin' a big hat, that blocks her face, then you can look at RAD and gawk at her. Well I guess there's only one thing left to say...

Stop wearin big hats, that cover your fine face Rhonda! Prince is fine and all, but I'm heterosexual. I need a woman to look at!

Don't know where your info comes from, but I just doubled checked via email and she has NOT been fired.

RAD is not in NY so this is probably true.

This is totally not true. Prince made a statement by performing with Wendy. This was not "oh, the great Mr. Scott is not available! who could I get, maybe... oh right Wendy lives in LA!" p lease ppl confirm your info before you post this BULLSHIT!
