The Chocolate Invasion..is hot

I don't know why you folks are trypin...but the Chocolate Invasion is just as hot as Musicology

Where did these songs on that CD come from? I don't recall seeing/hearing them on his website

For real.....Prince has just released not one but two very very very strong complete records! I am shocked that another record company would not pickup The Chocolate Invasion CD!

In particular Judas Smile is HUUUUUMMING!! That toon is hot! When I hear the opening of that song I'm on the floor movin! Very strong dance record from Prince

Super Cute...great song....

Underneath the Cream...that song is sooo fly its not even funny. Its a pretty record. Hell thats a sexy ass record!

Sex me /Sex me not...that organ is slicing me!! Keyboards towards the end...what!!!!

VaVoom is probably one of the best efforts for Prince at this type of song in long long time. VaVoom is a great great song. No one does that type of record better than Prince ...no one!!

U Make My sunshine...P has two gospel syled tunes this one ended up on this disc. The other "The Couch" on Musicology is equally outstanding

Both of these records show as usual tremendous depth and are broad BUT REALLY GOOD TOO!!!!. Unlike on some recent efforts when P could not pull it off. Rave and NPS to name two.

The Chocolate Invasion IS Here!!!!

"supercute"? "underneath the cream"? all those songs have been in circulation for...ooh, about 3 or 4 years. they were released as cd singles through the club and passed out at the first celebration (i remember a friend of mine gettin a copy of the "supercute/underneath the cream" single). all that stuff's been released as the chocolate invasion?

hmm bummer.

Is that right well that stuff sounds great. He bumps his head a couple times but no fewer than on Musicology. If you say P has been sitting on those songs for a minute Ok
But I want to know why...because they are really good songs. Period

Perhaps you need to take a listen to the entire Chocolate Invasion CD instead of referring to a couple of downloads that you've already heard. Go take a listen

It works.....it sounds way better than a cast off record. That collection of downloads is better than anything hes done in about 10 to 12 years

All those songs were officially made available for download a few years ago... all of them except for "The Dance" which is excellent. So the only new song is "the dance"

A radio dj on the Top 40 station in Minneapolis played both Vavoom and Supercute hoping for a positive reaction, but he said nobody seemed to like them so they stopped playing them.

its too bad that the only new track is the dance (ok i'm being greedy). I do really like it as an alblum, i think he may have let a few songs run a bit long for no real effect (i always though high would be great on the radio with a single edit).

Funny, i used to like vavoom alot more when i first heard it 2 years ago. for some reason i like when eye lay my hands on you more now though. supercute is still great as is judas smile.

only thing i would change about the downloads is that they should release artwork for download when you buy a whole alblum (higher bitrate would be nice too)

wonder if this is going to drop the value of the orginal singles for these songs (on ebay) ... they used to go for quite alot.

Almost all these tracks were released over 12 months in the first year of the NPG music club to Premium members, as were the Slaughterhouse tracks. I am surprised you are not equally raving about that album, perhaps you have not downloaded it yet?

Prince is of course always recording, and these tracks were made for various projects that never made the official light of day, instead he kept them back for the fans - only now has he gathered them together in 'album' form.

It is easy to forget that some people have not heard these tracks before - for those lucky people, it is like getting 3 or more new Prince albums released all at once, I bet that's hard to take in all at once!

i'm feeling TCI... it's wierd, but even though i had all of these songs already from the year one downloads, the songs sound better in this format... it works to their benifit to be arranged and sequenced as such... cause i never was the biggest fan of "sex me" or "vavoom" but in this context, they're jamming...

EllisDee..that is my point exactly. These songs may have been relased as downloads (whenever) but as an albumn they work shockingly well together. I would strongly recommend that people download the albumn to see what I'm talking about

As far as other comments about the downloads...I truly had never heard any of these songs before except U Make My Sun Shine & High. And you might notice that I never mentioned High as being one of my favorite songs on the disc

yeah... "high" is just a bad song... plain and simple... lol... it's probably the only song that doesn't benifit from this... but the others are hot...

"when eye lay my hands"... "judas"... "the dance"... and "underneath the cream" has always been one of my favorite slow jams...

"High" is a clear example of a cast off. But the rest of these songs are strong

Judas Smile is just a really good song. There is a section where Price starts this frantic high pitched rap which in my opinion doesn't work. But the keyboards and the chants of "the chocalate invasion starts here" is HOT!!! It is so hot in fact that I forget that he was even attempting to rap. There is nothing wrong with P rapping its just that when he does it he should make sure it works within the structure of the song.

Underneath the Cream - Is an unbelievable slassic Prince RB/POP slow jam. Again the keyboards are beautiful. Very reminisent of some of the keys you might here on a Meshell N'degocello record.

VaVaVoom - is what that Cheryl Crow/Prince "Baby Knows" duet in 99 wanted to sound like. It is Cream only better. It is a great great song and I just can't believe that song is not on Musicology. It would have served that albumn better tha say the boring and done over and over again "A Million Days"

SexMe/Sexmenot - Is hot....when is the last time P had a black dance record!! This and Judas Smile are it and they are good too. I mean just smokin. Again I am shocked that these songs did not make the light of day somewhere other than being download on his site. If the rap sections (and tehy are small) scared people off remove them!! Because the songs are that strong. You'd have be dead (or just not like to dance) to not move to these songs if they came on in a club

Super Cute...gets better and better everytime I hear it...P is such a great story teller

I really enjoy both records...but again I am just shocked how well the songs that are supposed to be castoffs or previous downloads actually work so well together when forming The Chocolate Invasion!

Anyway, it’s threads like these that piss me off a bit. U should be happy 4 Alexandernvrmnd because he is excited about listening 2 Prince songs 4 the first time, not chastising him because he hasn’t heard them before. I wish I knew all the outtakes y’all refer to, but I don’t. I’d love to ask 4 descriptions of these songs, but it’s posts like these that keep my inquisitiveness at bay. thank you Jillybean. I tried to remain calm as I was made to look stupid because I hadn't heard the songs on Chocolate before.

Its amazing to me the initial reactions to my post. The first couple never even addressed the fact that even if the songs are dowloads from the last couple of years...hell they work so well together on this disc!

That was my point

Thanks again biggrin

Okay, I just read the whole thread, and I think I can help you out. You asked why folks aren't as excited about the "Chocolate Invasion" album as they are about "Musicology". This is what made people trip. You see, you are obviously new, but at first I thought you were actually kinda mocking everyone else, since these are all songs from the first year of the NPGMC. No one is excited, because they already have this stuff (and some folks are pissed because "The Dance" is the only new song, and they don't want to have to pay for the full price of the album just to get it)

As the thread progressed, it became obvious that you weren't aware of the previous release of these tunes. That's why Brandon7 asked if you were being serious. There are a few folks who like to stir stuff up, and it just appeared you were doing the same. I hope this helps explain the reaction you got.

Now, all that having been said, I'm really happy you're dicovering this stuff! I agree that there are some true, lost gems in these two collections. In fact, NPGMC year one yielded some great stuff, much of which really worked as individual songs, but would have been out of place on an album. I assembled my own collections (including one that replicated one of the late sequences of the "High" album), and I was pretty happy with those. I might just have to do a new sequence to check out "Chocolate Invasion" and "Slaughterhouse" (of course, in order to properly do the former, I'll have to pay to get it since "The Dance" is a brand-new cut).

Once again, I'm glad your enjoying these discs. Let me know what you think of "Slaughterhouse" once you've downloaded it!

I will let you know what I think about Slaughterhouse

I must say that the teaser on the Musicology download page is what lead me to The Chocolate Invasion. I was not as impressed with the teaser for Slaughterhouse which is why I had yet to pay to download it

I will do it though.

You see I'm not one of those fans that will purchase anything from P. The work over the last several years has been disapoiting to me. I mean after the collective bodies of Rave and NPS to name a few (because there are other examples) he just lost me

But hes got my attention now with Musicology and this unbelievably hot Chocolate Invasion

I think with a decent video, 'when eye lay my hands on you' would at least shoot up the r&b charts.. that song gets hotter with every listen IMO

I really doubt that When I Lay My Hands On You would shoot up the R&B charts. To dramatic with crunchy rock guitars in the mix. In my opinion Supercute would have been a hit. I always get a vision of Soul Train dancers whenever I hear this one. It's such a tite song with a good hook.

"Supercute" was THE joint! VaVoom was also pretty tight (Shausler's theme song!)

WILMHOU is a great track, although I too doubt it would have been a hit. The video was really cheap looking anyway, so its probably for the best.

My feelings exactly.

Been lurking here myself...for the same reasons. Been a fan for years..in ebbb and flows. I moved far from my friends in chicago, who liked Prince and would get a hold of music no one could hear...good times. I move out to CA seperated from all of this new music. I am kickin myself for even thinking of hesitating to join the npgmc "back in the day". But for 100 bucks, I kept hearing bitching of downloads and not a lot of them...even someone suing him for not delivering as promised. I did get a few unreleased stuff in the past 4 years via file sharing...Supercute, and Splash and a few others. Those are gone now. So, I recenly joined the npgmc only to find nothing now. I looked at a list of all that was released...DAMN lots. But I can't hear it cuz it's been taken down.

Some of us don't have access to everything he puts out...but want to. I've been needing me some new boots with all the rain out here, but I can't find any. I have also yet to start "trading" as I don't know how to even go about it. Understod that for the hardcore, there's not a lot to offer you, unless he gives you something that you haven't heard...and some of you guys have heard a LOT. To even the enthusiastic fan out there (i own the most music of his that I know of), like myself, it's all new. For me it's like he posted 3 new discs of music to download.

I'm invading the chocolate this weekend! I still am grooving to Musicology.
