Prince Broadcast on 5 Viacom Channels

http://www.hitsdailydoubl...?news05067

the link has this article:

Prince continues to make history.
This Wednesday (4/28), the Purple One will appear on a groundbreaking 30-minute special that will appear, for the first time ever, simultaneously on five Viacom TV outlets, including MTV, MTV2, VH1, VH1 Classic and BET, airing from 9 to 9:30 p.m. (ET).

The show will feature performances and interviews with the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee. Four of the participating networks will air the special under the title Prince: The Art of Musicology, while BET has dubbed their special Music and Words by Prince.

Recorded before a live audience at New York City's Webster Hall, the program features performances of material from Prince's new release Musicology, which hit retail stores last Tuesday, but has been available for free with the price of a ticket on his current tour/. The new disc includes the title track and the powerful "Dear Mr. Man," among other new tracks. The program also features Prince's acoustic solo performance of a medley of his greatest hits.

Said Prince, "The support for Musicology is wonderful. We're pleased to broadcast the Musicology special throughout the Viacom music channels. It is great to see audiences around the country embracing music again."

Added Columbia Records Group President Will Botwin: "This historic broadcast, going out simultaneously over the five most influential music networks, is a tribute to the music and artistry of one of the most singular talents of our time. With a fast-paced combination of
brilliant performances and compelling interviews, this show will be remembered as one of the most special entertainment events of the year."

Said MTV Networks Group President Judy McGrath: "I love Prince. Our viewers love Prince and we are so excited to give them the chance to see some of his incredible new live performances on all of our music channels. We share a long musical legacy with Prince and it
makes perfect sense to celebrate his new release with a simulcast across our networks."

BET President/COO Debra Lee said: "BET viewers have waited with great anticipation the return of Prince to the music scene. Prince has always had a home on BET, going back to some of his earliest releases. We can think of no better place to punctuate his return to the music charts than on BET in a unique show hosted by our own head of music programming, Stephen Hill, which features not only Prince's performances, but also some insight into his musical genius."

Prince has returned to the music scene in a big way this year, kicking off 2004 with a stunning opening per4mance at the 46th Grammy Awards with multiple-award-winner Beyonce, followed by an attention-grabbing induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also launched the phenomenally successful "Musicology" concert tour in March.

The multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, songwriter, Oscar-winning composer, multi-Grammy winning artist has sold more than 100 million records and has been fearless in his pursuit of artistic challenges.

Yeah but - WOW! Even with a major record company's money, who else could do this right now? Maybe Madonna? I don't know. No, I don't think so. Madonna's in a strange hole at the moment. Her music is too left-field for a pop audience and too pop for a left-field audience.

Prince suddenly seems like the last man standing, doesn't he? The last great musical superstar.

I don't remember any magazine covers for prince. And definitely not this much TV coverage! But yeah, I never imagined he'd comeback so big, and so suddenly. It's fucking awesome, though!!!!!

Exactly! BET is just bandwagon this. That's why I always be watchin' VH1 or E(VH1-my fav). He's on there every now in then. So damn pitiful..Black Entertainment Television usually promotes(music wise) black ppl's music. Just cuz he dun do Rap/Hip Hop..I believe if this wuz sumbody else(doin' R/HH) their interview would be @least an hour. Everything 4 Prince has always(on BET) that I've seen has been 30 minutes. I mean his own half culture just gon' type disown him. & showin' his old vids on like u said 'Midnight Love'or 'Grown Folks Music'(I think that's the otha 1 u might have been referring 2). LAWDZ! ML comes on @ 12AM ON THE WEEKDAYS! Who da hell gon' be up 2 see that??-I can't cuz I haf2 get up 4 school @ 5:30am(& I only got 6 classes) & GFM comes on @ 11:30pm..that's a bit betta..still it doesn't mean they REALLY showin' THAT much of him. Yeah BET should stand 4 BANDWAGON ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION.

I know I said I wuzn't gonna complain about the 30 minute length of it still..after thinkin' 'bout how they do Prince I can't help but get mad 'bout it. This is all IMO,of course.

I'm really psyched about the broadcast, honest I am. But audiences around the country never stopped embracing music. His, maybe... The "elder statesman of music" routine was old by the Tavis show.

But, again, I'll be parked in front of a TV, diggin' this treat for sure.

Madonna has had PLENTY of moments. I'm sure she'll have plenty more. Love her to bits (well even that's waneing these days)...but I think her over exposure has gone too far. Where as Prince's underexposure did as well.

I just checked the programming listings for these 5 channels for Wednesday at 9pm, and nothing about Prince is listed. There's the "Art of Musicology" scheduled for MTV at 11:30pm on Friday night...is that the same thing?

FutureShock

Somebody gag me with a spoon. Talk about kissing ass. The corporate execs making such glorious statements about Prince need to be slapped. "I LOVE PRINCE"??? If they call the way they treated Prince the last 7 or 8 years "love" they sure do have a funny way of showing it. They don't care about Prince. The bottom line is that the music industry is hurting, and they need someone "larger than life" to lift them up. Prince, a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who puts on a show like no other fits the bill perfectly.

Don't get me wrong. I'm very happy for Prince. But it really irks my nerves to know that after all these years while Prince was still doing nearly the exact same thing he's doing now, nobody in the business would say a peep about Prince. But, if they had taken the time to notice, they would've seen that Prince has always been deserving of the kind of respect they are giving him now.

Hey dude. I agree with you about how they do Prince. I feel the same. But, this is an opportunity for the world to finally see what is lacking in music. There has not been an artist to emerge with the skill and genius that Prince has. He is truly the great polymath of our musical age. Its a shame that so many non talents are out there doing their thing, receiving coverage, front page press, etc. But now the time has come for those non talents and so called music lovers to get a taste of the maestro's genius. These non talents will think twice before they put out another piece of garbage. And, you know, so many people are jealous of Prince because they are not equally talented. That is why this broadcast is unprecedented; to show them what real talent and real music is.

i just hope that prince has the opportunuity to change the music world again. maybe the public will see the pleasure and skill involved in actually PLAYING instruments and writing songs/music. if people begin to appreciate that again, a lot of things could change. i know i'm dreaming but can you blame me? lol

I think the reason for good marketing is sony music
has a new boss and he is not a veteran of the music industry.
Sony has been doin pretty bad

he is trying to promote prince becsaaause he thinks he can
capture something others havent been able to

i think he has made prince his top priority

plus when they did the profile of the new sony guy one of the first thing
they mentioned he just signed prince

clive davis never used his muscles to do anything for rave

plus he has all the old artist he has been with for long time
so he gave them more importance.

Another thing is that if he has success with sony, prince
wont be jumpin companies. so thats another incentive.

This tour is another thing thats keepin it on the radar

i think he will gross more then $50million just in the US

I belive most shows r sold out or close to sold out
