I just saw a CNN update on Prince's tour, quoting Prince on why he's playing every night and when he has time to sleep, Prince says"I think about it like this- half a million dollars or sleep".So the decision is easy.He's straight up breaking the bank!!!!

Really? wow! That's Funny! Did he Really Say that? But Really Prince is being Generous with these Ticket prices. Other tours were More with no CD. If Sony/Columbia is helping get Prince all this Glory well Thank You ..You Rock!

The only "share" Sony gets is the marketing effect as it adds to sales numbers and provides a better chart position. I guess that's why Sony accepts the financial loss. Instead of selling the CD themselves to the ones who now receive a "free" one they hope to gain new buyers just upon the marketing effect.

However, the copies which are sold with the tickets are a sure win for Prince. Though it's sold at a low price Prince gets more out of it than probably any other artist selling through a label/distributor or even online.

Good work. Now he has to learn how to decide for a good packaging design...

Of course he still has his overhead- the band and crew salaries, transportation and lodging, etc. He's probably clearing about a mil a week.

Although on a side note- did anyone else notice LESS confetti during LGC lately? In Omaha and Ames it was a crazy, mad off the hook confetti storm. In KC it was just a little pop. I mean maybe 10% of what was at the other shows. What's up w/ that? Running low? Scaling back? What?

he won't be making that much per night. no way. when the stones / U2 / Nsync were doing staduims at $50 - $100 a ticket, they were only clearing about O.5 mill - 0.75 mill per night.

shows COST a fourtune to put on.

it's been said on Housequake site (but I can't find the thread) that he has done a deal to receive around $300,000 per night for himself, that all other costs are paid by the promoter who also takes whatever is left.Since the shows are grossing between $700,000 to $1+million you can get an idea of the math, although Prince will make around $30milliion on this tour the promoters may actually end up making more.. (there'll be some tears about this down the line I suspect). Yes, the production is quite expensive too, what's stranger is that he would sell a tour like that, most people these days would doa % deal and keep the costs in-house. Kind of weird since this would be like him doing a record deal where he didn't won the masters, and since we all know that's an issue for him and is nowadays unheard of anyway, most people do licencing deals, it makes this story if true all the stranger.

So the ONA tour must've been quite risky for Prince. Redline only has been the distributor... so anything else like paying off tour costs had to be paid by Prince. Uhm... wait a moment... has he been a JW at this time? Might be another source too...

his standard guarantee a night is 350K. That was during the ONA tour. A guarantee is what the promoter puts up in money just to book the artist. In addtition, Prince gets the lion share of the gate after all expenses. So, 500k is not too far fetched.
