Call my Name on the radio

Call My Name is getting strong airplay on Urban/AC for not being a single (yet) and is also gaining momentum at Urban stations. Here are some links to stations to call and request it

some on this site don't want to hear this but I've been saying for weeks this is the strongest single on the album. sit back and watch what this cut does for album sales in the next few weeks.

I like "Call My Name", but as someone on another thread mentioned, it's all about his wife. Now, before I get whomped, there is nothing wrong with that, however, for me personally, a song means more to me if it is more universal.

That is why I prefer "Million Days". Pretty much anyone can relate to that song.

A song named "Diana" is great to women named "Diana". But a song called "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" has a wider appeal.

Again...that's MHO.

Look, Call My Name is going to do very well. I have a good feeling about this. I think it is a universal song for those that are in love. The chorus is really easy to sing to where folks here were wondering where the chorus was in Musicology, the song. Plus, it a classic Prince ballad. You can't get any better than that.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You hit it on the head when you said it is a "classic prince ballad" Look, the main reason for a single is to help sell albums. "Call My Name" is what a Prince song is "supposed" to sound like to the non-hard core fans. And those are the ones that don't already own the album. People need to stop looking at this from a Prince fans point of view and look at it as someone who hasn't bought a Prince album since D&P

Respecting your opinion of course i'm not sure the logic of a song being too personal to be a hit really flies. Did the Police have a hit with Roxanne because there were 3 million people out there named Roxanne or that dated a Roxanne who was a call girl? Did you have to be named Jenny or want the phone number of a girl named Jenny to make 867-5309 a hit? Kool and the Gang's Joanna? Ritchie Valens, Oh Donna....well, i could go on but there's no point really.
Besides the fact that i think only "true" fans on this site would even know it's about his wife and get "the bridle path door" reference i still say a ballad is the way to go at this time. Like i mentioned on another post...look what Mario Wynans ballad did for him as a Lead Off single...it helped him beat Prince when their albums debuted. And IMHO i think Call my Name is a superior song than Mario's so i have no doubt it's going to push the record better than the other singles could at this time.

but of course...that's just my opinion. lol
